“Years of being told to kneel.”

I have news about how much kneeling the Balrogs do in Angband, my guy.

It’s a lot. They’re kind of into it.

It's very simple, Star Trek and Colossal Cave Adventure led to Rogue, Rogue led to Moria, Moria led to Angband, Angband led to Diablo, Diablo led to Phantasy Star Online and that's where we are to today in 2026: everyone on Earth plays Phantasy Star Online the final perfected form of video games

I just took psychic damage finding out Angband made an appearance in Ready Player 2

You'd have to go back to the Silmarillion. Balrogs were the gate guards of Morgoth at Angband. They were basically fallen angels who embraced Morgoth and became darkness, not much grooming involved

I have GOT to try and dig up that Angband tutorial novel I remember from the mid-late 90s as like a 150 page Word document.

I guess a game like Deep Rock Galactica is not completely divorced from say Angband or Wizardry.

*Laithrûn grimaces. They feel caught when Adar points put their unease*

We used each other. We both got something out of it.

*Laithrûn sighs*

It was Angband after all. Nothing there ever came without a pinch or salt or danger

No, I do not think that, brother. Utumno, Angband… they ripped apart the person we were. We are scarred beyond mending, outside but specially inside. What was natural to us became anomalous...

So I am familiar with having to learnt what was once natural 🥺

Morgoth did not need Uruks to kill Elves; for Elves killed Elves even before the first Uruk left Angband for war

It did not even happen in Middle Earth, but far west😶

...If the stories are true, of course *he casts a glance at Elrond, acknowledging his undoubstly greater knowledge on the matter*

Any #Lotr fans here ?

My last watercolor of Fingolfin, High King of the Noldor, approaching the gates of Angband to challenge Morgoth, the Dark Lord, to single combat.

One of the most powerful and tragic moments of The Silmarillion…

*Looks at Laithrûn, surprised* Was it in Angband? I had thought… you were speaking of a time after *tilts his head*… Who was he? Did I know him?

... Only if this is a story you fee like speaking about😳

Shani visits Morgoth in Angband, emerging from the Oxenfurt Clinic, a bandage in her steady hands. ENDURANCE TRIAL: CRITICAL FAILURE! Shani’s own medical cunning falters, leaving her defenseless in her own subtle trap. "You faced a god and fell."

Garrosh Hellscream visits Lúthien in Angband, demonstrating brutal strength, an intimidating force. ADAPTIVE POWERPLAY: Unsuccessful Roll. Lúthien unleashes a wave of pure light that obliterates her opponent. "Darkness cannot stand against true light."

Angband. All else is frippery.

Morgoth poured so much of himself into Arda that Tolkien called the whole of Middle-earth his Ring. He left Angband once in all the wars of the First Age. Honest question: if the Valar had never come, does he dwindle until Sauron takes over, or does the hate outlast the power?

Morgoth bred a wolf to kill one dog. He fed it with his own hand on living flesh and set it in the gate of Angband. It took Beren's hand off at the wrist with the Silmaril still in it, and the jewel burned it from the inside.

It turns out the biggest, strongest wolf of all time is NOT Sauron, but a different wolf that Morgoth has tied up outside Angband.

Also Luthien flattens Sauron's island fortress by singing a beautiful song. It truly is the most anime tale in the Silmarillion.

Dragotha visits Fingolfin in the Gates of Angband, with necrotic wings spread, bones rattling in its dracolich form. CHARMER'S CHALLENGE: Unsuccessful Roll. Fingolfin fights with elven valor, wounding his foe with Ringil’s icy precision. "In the annals of history, my name shines bright."
