A 33-year-old Toronto man, Ahmad Hassan Hajahmad, has been charged with terrorism following his alleged involvement in anti-Israel protests in downtown Toronto. Police allege he used amplification devices to make public statements advocating hatred and harm against Israeli and Jewish communities during demonstrations on May 25 and September 7, 2024. The charge was approved by the Ontario Attorney General and the Canadian government, with investigators linking his actions to Hamas, a designated terrorist group. The Toronto Police Service, in collaboration with the RCMP's INSET (Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams), conducted a joint investigation that included a search warrant at his residence, seizing electronic devices. Hajahmad was arrested and charged with supporting a terrorist group, appearing in court under a publication ban. The case underscores the police commitment to addressing threats to national security, emphasizing the importance of counter-terrorism efforts. The incident highlights the complexities of balancing free speech with public safety in the context of political demonstrations.
