#AntiPatterns
Sorry for unsolicited advice, but, like--it may be worth a session or two earlier on in the process just to make sure you have not learned any antipatterns that are going to put lasting strain on your voice.

I wonder, do we think anyone in the anti-AI space is deliberately leveraging OCD antipatterns here or is it an emergent property
I think an appeal to purity is a big part of the distinction. There's a general sense that being touched by anything connected to AI will "taint" a body or project, and that sense is reactionary in nature.

At @stacklok.com , we’re AI maximalists who care about the business value AI delivers. Our engineering team’s work to understand and reduce avoidable spend has us on track to cut our AI bill by 42% this month. Here’s what we’ve learned. stacklok.com/blog/our-ai-...
AI Cost Antipatterns That Inflate Your LLM Bill
Stacklok cut AI spend 42% in a month using AI gateway data to fix three cost antipatterns: pricing-cliff surcharges, stale model choices, and repo context bloat

I cover:
• How security roles and responsibilities should work
• What usually goes wrong - common antipatterns
• What happens when important security responsibilities fall through the cracks
• Practical tips for fixing those problems
• How to navigate (a broken) organization

Oh yeah and if you do show up I have a couple of talks during the main conference as well, both conveniently just after lunch so if you were to I dunno stay out late drinking or anything you could probably still make them. One is on antipatterns and the other is on writing code agents can maintain.

it's worth doing that, and then having it operate *with memories on* while fixing them, so it learns all the antipatterns of what not to do, when you use it to develop new code.

It's kinda interesting how your experiences not using it are the same as my experiences trying to use it. I find the quality and quantity suffer each time, to the point where AI generates code that occasionally fit known antipatterns in the games industry.

Your LLM learned #Nix from public repos. So it writes unfiltered src, sleep in #NixOS tests, and fragile overrides with total confidence.

Nix Anti-Patterns names 40 of these, before/after—2nd edition: 93 pages, 14 new recipes.

4 recipes in the free sample: nix.institute/books/nix-an...

oh, just me resetting a strong password I have securely stored to a weak password I can type in on mobile for a financial service that disables password sync on their mobile app

turning off the affordances makes people *less* secure, InvestEngine and you should feel bad for your antipatterns

My other talks are on... Antipatterns and Worst Practices!

Always fun to talk about things that didn't work out and what NOT to do.

I'm seeing that. I'm seeing that mandatory stuffing of one set with all the marketable contents of a universe leads to consistent design antipatterns and audience frustrations.

This talk covered
➕ Hard-won career tips and learnings for practitioners and leaders
➕ Security roles and responsibilities
➕ How to avoid the blame game that undermines everything security does
➕ A whole bunch of security antipatterns

I have been using chat exclusively for debugging. Half the time, it recommends antipatterns like putting composables in MutableState or injecting a Context into a ViewModel. If I didn't know Android as well as I did my codebase would be a mess

The patterns-versus-antipatterns framing sounds especially useful for learning why a design scales, not just memorizing syntax. Congrats on the update!

like: better chess players learn an enormous amount of specific structured information and what a good chess position looks like. nevertheless, there is a vast 'cursed residual' of antipatterns which call for a good-looking move that is actually wrong/a trap. and by their particularity and rarity,

I do see what you mean, and I also have nontrivial experiences with those scenes and generally find most rationalists to be friendly, but I would like you to consider that maybe this is just how high-control antipatterns are expressed in rationalist ingroup jargon.
