“[the Finzi is familiar] the other 2 works…show us the exciting part of 1948. International influences, interesting ensembles, and philosophical influences in the works of ApIvor and Swain give us a deeper examination not only of the music but also of the depth of thought in the post-war period.”
Peter Cigleris Revives Two Lost Clarinet Concertos

The Swain has been in a box in Switzerland since her death & it's rather fabulous. But it's the ApIvor that I think comes out the biggest surprise - sitting just on the edge of tonality but with an incredibly infectious drive. Will be interested to hear what you think.

ApIvor was no stranger to Lorca’s poetry. The translation into English is the composer's own, & he translated the complete verse of Lorca in 7 volumes. The musical language includes Spanish inflexions in the vocal line & the piano alludes to flamenco. The cycle was later arranged for voice & guitar.
