Great to see our PhD student Serena Lombardo presenting at the SAA meeting in Denver! Her talk, “Early Upper Paleolithic Technical Behavior at Apidima (Peloponnese, Greece): Technological Analysis of the Lithic Assemblage from Cave C,” highlighted our exciting ongoing research at Apidima! Congrats!🤩

Watching online @katharv.bsky.social talk about Apidima at #ESHE2025 , extremely important and intriguing site: what is the taphonomic context of these two skulls of different ages?

Our species left Africa many times over thousands of years.

The oldest known Homo sapiens fossil outside of Africa is a 210,000-year-old skull fragment from Apidima Cave in #Greece 🇬🇷

Bones of the Neanderthals were found nearby - a species we had an intimate relationship with...

Katerina Harvati ‘Middle Pleistocene funerary ritual at Apidima? An examination of evidence’
2 homs– 2 dates: Ap2: >170 ka (NEA), Ap1 >210 ka (early H sapiens).
Could it be mortuary ritual instead (Otte 2020)?! NO.
Analysis of tapho, homs in fissure! no pebbles, no pigments 😀
