Years ago I saw JL as Eleanor of Aquacade in The Lion in Winter (at the Haymarket…?), and she was swell.

*whispers* The play’s insufferable.

WHEN A MERMAID MET THE MONSTER (H C Potter, 1948)

“The strangest love triangle ever known!”

The bashful owner (Boris Karloff) of La Mirada’s best Aquacade & Chamber of Horrors gets more than he bargained for when a revivified Frankenstein Monster runs off with his star attraction (Ann Blyth).

My grandmother Barbara died 26 years ago today. She played mahjong and made me jello with mandarin slices when I was little, but back in the 1930s, she was a Rockette and danced as part of Billy Rose's Aquacade at the World's Fair. Here is one of her pr shots.

Just by the bye, I saw a production of it in London some years ago with Joanna Lumley as Eleanor of Aquacade, and I won't say that she was surprisingly good, because why should it be a surprise that she's good?, but she was certainly bracingly good.

That's Robert Lindsay, also just by the bye.

My impression as a fan of history is that of the us service branches, it’s the Marines who consistently do the weirdest, least-expected things

I almost just said that I saw Jennifer Saunders as Eleanor of Aquacade in The Lion in Winter, but that was in fact Joanna Lumley.

Who was, I must note, excellent, though good god that play is

Never mind.

My grandmother was a Rockette in the 1930s and also danced at Billy Rose's Aquacade at the World's Fair. I asked her if she knew Johnny Weissmuller and she just said, "Oh, he was nasty drunk."
Give me one interesting fact about your family history that you learned.

I love it, but I do enjoy when our @bcdreyer.social slags it off with “Eleanor of Aquacade” 😂😂

I saw the play in London with Joanna Lumley (one might say "of all people," I suppose) as Eleanor of Aquacade. She was superb; it's an incredibly rickety piece of writing.

Aquacade was an important vassal state of the Angevins. I always thought her role should have been given to Esther Williams.

That said, and I know how (some) people adore the film, having seen the play (in London, with Joanna Lumley as Eleanor of Aquacade) I am content to say that it's...

...not a good play.
