He indicated his bookcase, which had a small selection of archaology books, including my supervisior's popular science book. "Oh, You have Derek's book" I said loudly! "Derek's book?" I took it off the shelves and showed him it. "How do you know that?" he barked. "He supervised my DPhil." I said.

A fascinating look at Spain's El Castillo cave. Prehistoric cave artists weren't just decorating flat walls—they used cracks, bulges and stalagmites to make animals emerge from the rock itself. buff.ly/QxTBcNe #archaology #prehistoricart #prehistory
The Prehistoric Paintings on the Walls of Caves Have Always Been Moving. But With the Right Kind of Light, Some Actually Seem to Move
As archaeologists study the work of ancient artists, they notice that the images aren’t simply static; some are painted into the contours of the rock, and others are set in motion in torchlight

There are various theories, none involving human evolution in the Americas. And when it comes to education, I've got a Ph.D. in archaology & historical sciences, as well as an M.Sc. in anthropology. So, please, stop talking nonsense, since fossil evidence is clear: people came to the Americas.

A lot of these celebs are very much into pseudoscience/archaology and sadly a lot of folks are wired in such a way that anything said by a celebrity seems more truthful by default.

I wish these people, like Terrence Howard and Graham Hancock, weren't given a platform to spread their nonsense.

@jonathanfoyle.bsky.social Also in case of natural disasters. The lab & all facilities of the Maritime Archaology Unit of Sri Lanka were lost in the 2004 tsunami. The multi-year excavation of the 'Avondster' shipwreck had been completed days before, & all artefacts returned to the sea. However […]

Ancient port from Cleopatra’s time found underwater in Egypt

Daran sieht man mal wieder, wie entscheidend frühkindliche Interessen sind. Dem Vater von Kathleen Martínez war Archäologin als Beruf zu unsicher. Sie wurde wie er Juristin.

Of all the new animals I discovered thanks to Fossils and Archeology, the Citipati is definitely my favorite! Then again, I'm a sucker for a tail fan and a color gradient. And the design was fairly easy to transfer over, which I very much appreciate

New Review + Author Interview!

Jo Segura is writing for the girlies who love love and Indiana Jones vibes. Her latest book, Temple of Swoon, sends us back to the jungle for a search for a hidden city and lots of danger.

Read my #bookreview here:
Book Review: “Temple of Swoon” by Jo Segura
2025 is jam-packed with great book releases, and one I was excited for in January was Temple of Swoon by Jo Segura, because her debut Raiders of the Lost Heart was a fun archaology romance and I was eager for more. In Temple of Swoon , we meet Miri as she's missing the bus to an archaeological search and drops her snacks.

Side note, S/o to @goldavelez.org for persistently showing up in the public archives that I can find as a force for good. I have only been able to do a little archaology of early atproto bc like semweb it seems to be too soon to talk abt, but there are so many good ideas that I wonder what happened.

It wasn't sci-fi I dont think... but then again...hmm. There was always some artifact or element of an archaology site that figured in to the storyline.
