This letter, featuring cross-hatch writing, was sent to Mrs. Valentine O.B. Brown of West Randolph, VT, in 1838. It discusses the news and heath of family and friends, deaths, wishes for comfort and happiness, and activities such as walking in the garden and listening to birds. #ArchivesHandwriting

Behind on your emails (I know I am)? You're in good company. Mae Strickland opens her 1891 letter to her cousin Callie Harding with: "I presume by this time you have given up all hopes of ever again hearing from me."

Can't ready your doctor's handwriting? How about these pages from Dr. Howard A. Kelly's 1872 copybook - featuring his script as a 14-year-old composition student (left) and later as an adult (right).

We’re kicking off our first #ArchivesHashtagParty on here, and boy do we have a lot of material for this month’s theme: #ArchivesHandwriting.

From JFK to his family to administration members to everyday citizens, the archives at the JFK Library is full of examples of all kinds of penmanship.

This month's #ArchivesHashtagParty theme is #ArchivesHandwriting, and it's also #WomensHistoryMonth, so we wanted to highlight the OWLs! The VT Chapter of the Order of Women Legislators, est. 1936, encouraged election or appointment of women to public office and provided support among its members.

Joining the #ArchivesHandwriting #ArchivesHashtagParty with this manuscript of Diaetetica Sacra, handwritten (in German) by one of the monks at Ephrata, on handmade paper made by themselves at their paper mill. Undoubtedly written before they had their printing press! In the Athenaeum collection!

We’re glad to be joining the #ArchivesHashtagParty this month, looking at #ArchivesHandwriting. Here we see an early 1916 page from the guestbook of the Department of Tropical Research’s station in Kartabo, British Guiana.

Inspired by @kenoshamuseums.bsky.social, here's part of a Civil War letter written by Charles Marples. Handwriting is pretty similar to their Civil War letter.

We have a substantial collection of materials from Marples, who moved from MN to NE

There are a million more essential reasons why dismantling the federal government is bad, but this one stings as an archivist. #ArchivesHashtagParty was a fun way to share the UAW archives with a broader audience and I will miss it. THANK YOU to the NARA social media team for the great work. 😢

Two of the oldest #ArchivesHandwriting documents in our collection were signed by James Ley, first Earl of Marlborough, in 1625 and 1627. The title became extinct after four Earls, until John Churchill, Winston Churchill's ancestor, was made Earl (and later Duke) in 1689.

What did they do before email? Write notes of course! In the right note, Winston Churchill (red ink) asks "How many U-boats are supposed to be out working now?" and Private Secretary Jock Colville (black ink) replies "6...at sea and 2 in the French port of L'Orient"

Our #ArchivesHandwriting (complete with the *perfect* notebook cover ✍️) comes courtesy of Herman L. Kretschmer, a 1900 graduate of NU's Pharmacy School and 1904 graduate of the Medical School. He became a leading surgeon in Chicago and served as president of the American Medical Association

It's time for another #ArchivesHashtagParty! This month's theme is #ArchivesHandwriting, and today we're sharing one of our old tests. This a gorgeous handwritten copy of the Senior Class Examination in Theory and Practice of Pharmacy from April 12, 1878. Can you answer any of the questions? 📝
