a quick Halloween piece for once! or like, Fugu dressed up in a FALKEN from Ace Combat, and then subsequently blowing him up in said costume.

just to get him in the spirit of things.

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Description: Fugu, an Orca from C&C, now dressed up as a FALKEN from Ace Combat. A speedy VTOL as a blisteringly fast superplane! ...except the costume has also been inflated. Fugu can be seen through the visor, expressed with what can only be described as a simple "...oh" on his own visor. Artist's Note: For once, I did a holiday piece! ...if because someone else was doing a Halloween art thread in another server, and I thought I'd actually try to get into the spirit of things. Normally I go for Flapjack when it comes to costumes, but I thought it'd be funnier to put Fugu in one himself. ...so why is Fugu inflated here? Because someone else suggested him wearing that costume while he was at capacity. Idea was more fun than I thought once I actually started properly drawing. permabloons are shockingly difficult to draw inflated lemme tell ya Final Time: 1h17m

Description: uber-inflated Flapjack, eyes bulging and mouth quivering, trying to hold in air. a thought bubble peers into his thought process behind this... "i should be at McDonald's by now..." ("McDonald's" is stylized as a single "M", akin to the golden arches.) Artist's Note: cool fun fact did you know hanging around people with tastes that don't quite line up with yours can slowly nudge you into trying new things unprompted i think that's pretty cool probably not gonna make uber a habit, but as a treat, you can throw rocks at @bxnusducks.bsky.social

Flapjack! He is inflating, and on his last legs. Oh no! He has popped, and is dead as clearly indicated by the x-x eyes now his eyes are more of a @~@, while a bunch of flap scraps are falling to the ground crust is sobbing and panicking uncontrollably in the background, "oh no he popped and is dead and my day is ruined" this piece is in full color now, Flapjack's in an interdimensional McDonald's with a coke and fries and still very inflated, lamenting to himself "I wanted Dairy Queen..." ioto's there too, "Oh hey! You too?"

I forgot the most important and crucial part of every AreoAnts piece: that delicious eye glint. (And other assorted improvements.)

#AreoOCs
Description: In the front and center of it all, Vazz-33 stares directly into you, a single green pupil breaking past all the purple. A single eye shines through the darkness. He sings one word. The masks of his fellow Sootseer surround him, watching him as he watches you. Their eyes have no life within, for Vazz wears them within. They join his chorus, for he speaks for them all. "Ruin." Artist's Note: I joke about the eye glint, but I find that it KEEPS. ADDING. AURA. It draws your eyes to a certain point, a literal "X marks the spot" for lighting! A sense of determination that this guy's gonna fuck you up! Maybe it's a shortcut, but damn it, it's too damn effective. There were also a few parts about the original version that kinda didn't sit well with me, while Vazz sharing the exact color with the skulls in the background was deliberate, it didn't give it the same pop that Piss Off's piece had. Vazz's flames also lacked any real definition, but a little bit of tone goes a long way for that. Even lengthened the teeth of like... what, two skulls in the back? Not much, but still. It's weird, having an affinity for wanting to make compositions like this when I'm hard-locked to being a funny inflation artist. Vazz in particular was born outta the desire to make a Sootseer OC that was just a little bit rounder than normal. Oops! Now my funny balloon Palworld OC encompasses the sin of wrath! ...but none of y'all can ever see in my head, yeah? Would love to share those AMVs with you guys. Final Time: 2h21m

Vazz-33 sings a chorus of stolen whimsy.
They’re all in harmony.
They sing your doom.

The masks of his fellow Sootseer surround him, watching him as he watches you. Their eyes have no life within, for Vazz wears them within. Artist's Note: Remember that one piece of Piss Off I drew a while ago? This was made as a sort of counterpiece to it. Where PO is lost in a fog of thought, Vazz is more focused... if only because everyone has the exact same thought by mere chance. Being born and raised to be some thoughtless entertainment leaves you feeling bitter. Wanted to also have a Xenogard skull behind Vazz as well, given that he has their arms, but alas, I couldn't find a way to make it convincingly work with the idea I had in mind. What a shame. #AirborneAugust

You don't get to be the toughest soldier on the battlefield by hitting the hardest. No. You have to take the licks as much as you can give them.

And somehow... some-fucking-how, Fugu, this fragile balloon of an Orca, is earning that title.

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Airborne August 8 - Tough Description: Fugu (Orca Assault Craft mk.I, permanently inflated) in his anthro state, suffering several punctures and tears... and still flying. He's run completely out of ammunition, air is leaking out of every single makeshift orifice, and his health bar's well into critical state, but he's not dead yet. Behind him, a nondescript base burns, to imply that Fugu's state is very much recent, and he survived whatever caused it to happen. Artist's Note: Did this on my iPad, thinking "oh this'll just be a thumbnail and I can make the full thing later", only... whoops! Not only did I put enough detail into the Procreate rough, it ended up being much better than all the poses I *tried* to draw on the real deal. So that'll show up in the final tally near the end. Side note, holy fuck do I need to put more effort into... uh, NOT putting effort into these things. Airborne August's a marathon, not a sprint, and it's partially why I fell off the previous two years. I'm feeling weirdly compelled to make this whole thing happen, but we'll see if this actually succeeds or not... I *am* four days late as of writing this, after all. Final Time: 2h44m (+11m)

#AirborneAugust is, in my case anyway, a fun little daily art challenge, quickly making art pieces once per day!

I, uh, may have gotten kinda carried away with this, compared to my previous pieces.

(ft @vernasaurus.bsky.social's "Sylas", Vale's bitterest villain)

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Airborne August 7 - Compare Description: Sylasine Arturenous (an unholy mix of Unovan/Hisuian Zoroark), or "Sylas", locked head-to-head against Valeous Araumatadenes the Eelektross, or "Vale". Two wizards of the Grand Isles, two wizards of Netheril. Both are swollen, neither seem to care. In both their hands, a Sphere of Spheres, one of ice, one of light. Their cloaks billow forth, one in tatters, the other mended. Both are backed by their elements, one of ice, one of thunder. Both so different, both so similar. In their eyes lies the only thing unanimously alike: the intent to kill. Artist's Note: I kinda got carried away with this, juuuuuust a smidge. Tragically it's a D&D thing, there's only so much I can gas y'all up to the same level I myself gassed myself up for this... but then again, isn't art best made for the self? (Maybe it wouldn't hurt to mention that Sylas here is the resident "evil fucking wizard", loves cursing people. Has a lot of folk stuck being a balloon because of him, though they seem to have adjusted nicely. Meanwhile, Vale ended up using an old plot of his with a fake Potion of "Growth" to permanently inflated Sylas! It failed, of course, but only because the dude thought to protect himself from the effects ahead of time. We haven't run into him again, but he's stuck hiccuping high-level Sphere of Spheres according to our DM. Think "Fireball, but it inflates people".) Final Time: 5h27m

Day 6 of #airborneaugust! And it's a little exhausting keeping up with all this, it's making me quite Tired... oh! There's a familiar stingray! He also seems quite Tired...

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Airborne August 6 - Tired Description: Ito, a magic stingray.... kinda just resting lazily in the middle of a cavern entrance, sleeping cap on top. He is peaceful, restful, floating listlessly in place, the sounds of the rain outside soothing to his non-existent ears. His weird slime pet, though, isn't nearly as pleased, swollen just as much as Ito is and having none of it, chirping loudly and angrily at the stingray. His intent doesn't reach his imprisoner. Artist's Note: Truck's in the shop for repairs, so I'm in a hotel room while we wait for my truck to regain the ability to stay cool. Very nice! Almost went with Fugu for this piece instead, but it was turning out to be a bit too close to the first piece I made this month, so I gave it a little more of a noggin rattle... haven't seen our old friend in a while, have we? Perfect. The weather was just a nice bonus. Final Time: 1h51m

next up for #AirborneAugust, we have... oh hey, it's Deathscythe! It's been a bit, how've you-

oh......... so Careless............

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Airborne August 5 - Careless Description: Deathscythe (a funny funky spaceship, not the gundam) flies directly into a sidescrolling shmup wall, denting his head directly backwards and overloading his reactor... ...sending him flying out of control, swollen and shocked. Artist's Note: MUCH simpler piece this time, didn't even breach an hour! Which is kinda funny, since I've been slaving over "okay how do I make this prompt work" over the past two days I haven't been able to tackle it. There are downsides to my taste in flation, when everything is deliberate... Final Time: 0h34m

(cw: popping, scraps, slightly morbid but nothing explicit)

This #AirborneAugust comes to you after a messy base raid from some random Pals you just missed! So Piss Off here's just gonna take a few moments to "Cleanup" some things here.

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Airborne August 4 - Cleanup Description: Piss Off (a Leezpunk Ignis) dutifully cleans up the base she runs with a vacuum... a vacuum that's running well past full at this point, but she either doesn't seem to notice or doesn't seem to care. She's too busy whistling terribly. There's a notification above her head... <<Raid Cleared!>> it says. A Leezpunk Crest is bumping up against the vacuum handle, failing to get sucked in. In the background, Vazz-33 (Sootseer) and BnR (Warsect) are chatting about something, a scrap piece having fallen on the former's head to their frustration. Many scrap pieces are falling down, just to further hint at previous events. Artist's Note: Yeah when I made this i somehow didn't think this would result in an inflating vacuum, i just knew I wanted PSHOF to be doing some sort of cleaning during the aftermath of a base raid. Heck, I wanted her to be using a tiny brush to put a bunch of scraps in a dust bin, but I couldn't seem to get that to work... so I just gave her a vacuum instead and went from there. Oops! Less ambitious than I'd have wanted, but... do I *really* need to get into ambitious pieces on Day 4? It's a marathon, not a sprint. Final Time: 3h43m

It's a new year, and another #airborneaugust for the lot of us! We'll see how far I go this time, but as it stands? We're going with something Simple.

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
Airborne August 1 - Simple Description: Fugu (an Orca Assault Craft) is on his Helipad, getting inflated by a canister in the background. Judas (Stealth Tank) watches. There's an arrow pointing to the "Simple", clarifying that it is... "as in, the reintroduction to the month is going with a fella I find SIMPLE to draw lol" Artist's Note: yeah so I literally *just* finished Palworld today, happened to have a day off so I knocked out the story. which is fantastic, because holy hell I've been wanting to draw for so long only for my attention to go elsewhere lmao simple is as simple does

Are there any USEFUL cases for your characters to be inflated? Being inflatable has gotta have SOME benefits... — The answer, of course, is "a decent bit actually, just gotta be a bit more clever about it"... alterspring.org/@areoants/a/...

#inflation #inflationart #AreoQnA #AreoOCs
Question: "Are there any USEFUL cases for your characters to be inflated? Being inflatable has gotta have SOME benefits..." Description: Flapjack, acting as my stand-in inside the main panel, replies as such. "My imagination's a bit more rigid as of late, and, like it or not, it's definitely more situational without decent worldbuilding. But you CAN still get clever with it." On the top-left, BnR (a Warsect) shields Piss Off (a Leezpunk Ignis) from an off-screen attack, bloated to a sizable (but not insane) degree. "B'n'R*, for example. Massive dude, acts as a bodyguard for Piss Off. Sturdy enough that losing some defense is fine for giving her more cover." *"Bug 'n Round" In the middle panel, a heat-seeking missile flies right past Fugu, the inflated Orca VTOL. He looks by at the passing missile, not really in fear or awe. Just kinda neutrally. Little heat waves are flying out of his engines, not giving off any exhaust. "Or Fugu. If he catches a lock, he can just... turn his engines off. Loses heat signatures a lot faster than altitude." Bottom-left panel, features an EXTREMELY swollen Emolga (BuoyantBliss), alongside the entirety of Team Chroma (a PMDnD adventuring group) falling right into them, acting as an airbag for them. "Even saved our party during an extradimensional train crash! Long story." Just below that, next to the final panel, a final note: "Hell, honeypot ants exist IRL for honey storage. So there's even that." Artist's Note: Man, I wasn't kidding when I said that Palworld took up my entire work break. The only other piece I did during my 6-day freedom stint was a pretty quick commission for a friend, and then it was back to Palworld. Final Time: 3h41m Alterspring Answer: The answer, of course, is "a decent bit actually, just gotta be a bit more clever about it". We're talking "think like a JoJo protagonist" level's of creativity here. All else fails? Storage and transport, baby. Storage and transport.

Does Vex and Judas know each other, and if yes, how is their relation? — Vex knows about Judas, yes. He's looked up archive footage and historical documents about him. Done as much research as one can about a dude from two wars ago. Know thy enemy.

alterspring.org/@areoants/a/...

#AreoOCs #AreoQnA
Question: "Does Vex and Judas know each other, and if yes, how is their relation(ship)?" Description: The camera is panned behind Vex, staring down at a tablet. There's a bunch of information about Judas displayed on it, although the camera is too far to make any of the details out. He's just looking on at the image with a slight hint of disgust. "Ah, a question out of time. I'll be curt. He's a historical figure to me, a product two wars before this one. A traitor to his *deservedly* bitter end. I'm far more familiar with his anomaly of a friend. Time hasn't claimed him yet. Nothing does." Artist's Note: Judas is a Stealth Tank mk. I, while Vex is a Stealth Tank mk. III. Makes sense one of them would be completely outdated and gone by the time the other one's around. But I've also had this strange idea of Fugu, an Orca mk. I, modified into this parodical farce of an air force unit, somehow surviving long past his prime. Long past his due date. Past his war. Past his time. It's weird, having something so incidental, in a genre too erotic or comical to take seriously, turn into a character I wanna try to fully examine. Have I ever mentioned wanting to write stories? Think fast! P Balloon! — Y'know, I feel like all my characters could probably be put on a tier list for how fast they'd actually react. (Which is in the link itself. Wow!)

#AreoOCs #AreoQNA

alterspring.org/@areoants/a/...
Question: "Think fast! P Balloon!" Description: 1st Panel, Crust parries a P-Balloon right past him, into the direction of an unsuspecting Ragu, too absorbed in his reading of a Good Book... 2nd panel, Crust towers over the viewer, gloating over their missed trick. ("Really thought that'd get me, huh?") ("Thanks for the heads up.")=("Better luck next time.") Ragu, completely unphased, is already redirecting the P-Balloon back to an unsuspecting Crust. Artist's Note: Thought this would take less time than it did, so naturally I had this really fun and cool and interesting image in my head of someone actually thinking fast. Who better than Crust? Then it just turns into a Simpsons joke a'la building off the last punchline. Q&Arts are fun for these kinda things. Final Time: 4h02m Alterspring Answer: Y'know, I feel like all my characters could probably be put on a tier list for how fast they'd actually react. Some (Crust, Ragu, Hard Batter) would actually react fast, some would be a bit slow to the punch (Deathscythe, Vex), and some would probably just let it happen (Fugu, Judas, Flapjack).

check out this extremely cool and legitimate fighting game i just made where Fugu (except now he's anthro) does a Leg Sweep Attack on Vex very cool very nice

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
An anthropomorphic Fugu (himself an Orca Fighter from the hit game Command and Conquer, but permanently inflated) is seen doing a leg sweep attack, knocking Vex (an anthro Stealth Tank mk. III) into the air. Given that Bluesky would murder the transparency, and that the picture's gonna get .jpg'd anyway, the Street Fighter 4 training stage has been crudely inserted into the background, so as to give both characters a bit of scale and not make the upload read like crud.

some various doodles of this really cool anthro stealth tank who i call "Vex" hes pretty cool

#inflation #inflationart #AreoOCs
a variety of various doodles of the aforementioned Stealth Tank, featuring Vex: - hanging onto the top of a third generation Obelisk of Light - crawling down in a prone position, his hand over his tread - eating popcorn, or some other funny snack - carried back to base by a Vertigo Bomber, wearing shades and looking cool. both are transparent. Vex is merely a big ball in this doodle. "Unamused", as the kids these days would call him. Now, Vex is strung up by the back tread, the "tail" as it were, kept from floating off while he panics. Vex doing a cool epic skateboarding trick, the "Sneaky Lobster" as he calls it, awarding him 800 points in the style of Tony Hawk. A 3rd Gen Obelisk is clapping him on. Cool trick, Vex!
