Hard to imagine what Rock & Roll would be like had it not been for Big Mama Thornton and Lightning Hopkins. This OG 1968 Arhoolie compilation was released to capitalize on Janis Joplin's re-arrangement of Ball & Chain during the late 60s Blues revival. Great comp!

Change of pace, but another Brighton find. I haven’t added a Arhoolie to the collection in ages. This is barrelhouse boogie-woogie all the way; and that is no bad thing. As Dave himself says as he plays the opening bars; “Hell yeah!”

A magical combination. Four tracks from a 1964 live session and one from 1961 appear on this release. In 1996 a fully expanded session became available.
