◎Monday, JUNE 8th *****I received a request from a follower to post about plants in Hokkaido. Good timing!I happened to find a flower that looked like a white-flowered wild strawberry--the scientific name is Fragaria nipponica-- (at least that's what it looked like in Google image search) on Ashibetsu Mountain, so I took some pictures ✨One of the things that surprised me when I came to Hokkaido, the northernmost tip of Japan, from Kyushu (Western Japan), is the abundance, beauty, and splendor of the flowers blooming everywhere —-not just deep in the mountains, but also in vacant lots, parks, and even small grassy areas by the roadside.I used to live in various parts of Honshu for work, but the plants I found "near my house" or "in the city" were almost always just "common weeds that grow everywhere."In Ashibetsu city, both weeds and wildflowers are all very photogenic."Did someone plant them?" "Is someone taking care of them?"I asked myself these questions many times…A local acquaintance said, "They keep coming back no matter how many times you pull them out, it's a real problem," so I guess it's just an ordinary part of everyday life. However, as someone who moved here from Honshu, I'm delighted to see so many kinds of flowers that aren't commonly found in everyday life in Honshu, making it feel like I'm seeing something unusual every day.Although, there are also a lot of insects around flowers, which is a bit of a nuisance for me...The images today show some of the flowers that bloom "normally" all over Ashibetsu.※The common names of the flowers shown in the images may vary depending on the country or region, so we have provided the scientific names that are universally recognized.
