Love it when that happens
Like five strips of five ashigaru per on screen. The middle of ashigaru on one of the strips has not had its back cuirass unpainted somehow.

Ashigaru in the Rain
A foot soldier crouches beneath a battered straw hat, rain and debris sweep past.
#Ashigaru #JapaneseHistory #HistoricalArt #BattlefieldArt #AIart #AIchallenge #aiartcommunity #aiartist #GenAI #GenerativeArt #SynthArt #BuilderofNightmares
A rain-soaked Japanese foot soldier crouches at the center of a tightly framed battlefield portrait. His broad, battered conical straw hat tilts low over his face, shadowing a stern expression beneath mud-streaked skin. Dark layered armor and rough clothing cover his shoulders and chest, marked with grime, scratches, and reddish stains. A long weapon angles up from the lower left beside him. Diagonal rain and flecks of debris cut across the foreground. Behind him, indistinct figures and pale smoke blur into a gray battlefield, keeping attention on the soldier’s face and battered gear. Muted charcoal, brown, and gray tones give the scene a cold, storm-lit appearance. Petals on the Blade
A warrior’s gaze meets the viewer beneath a storm of petals.
#Ashigaru #SamuraiArt #SakuraArt #FantasyArt
#AIart #AIchallenge #aiartcommunity #aiartist #GenAI #GenerativeArt #SynthArt #BuilderofNightmares
A close view centers on a woman in ornate Japanese-style armor. She looks toward the viewer from beneath a large, weathered metal helmet decorated with a circular crest. Strands of dark hair cross her face, partly veiling one eye. A dense red plume or tassel fills much of the left side and lower foreground. Dark scaled armor with red accents surrounds her, while a long steel blade cuts diagonally across the scene. Pale pink petals drift through the foreground and background, where soft blossoms blur into muted gray and rose tones. Keywords: armored woman, Japanese armor, helmet, sword, red plume, flower petals, black armor, pink blossoms, fantasy art, close-up portrait AI-generated; use is permitted for non-commercial creative projects. The strip on the left has bad spray base coat/"fuzzy" covering while the right has maybe a little too much.

I think what this photo shows is that it didn't matter.

I still resprayed some of the guys.

Since no one asked, here are my versions of "tanegashima ashigaru" made in 2019 and 2024. The former is painted with acrylics, while the latter is a #Krita digital painting. Maybe in 2029 I should try a ukiyo-e variation?

With regret, I'll be stopping sales to EU member states from Saturday 24th October.

That should give me a week to clear the decks of any orders that do come in.

If the situation changes I'll certainly open sales again 🙂

Big thank you to our EU customers!

Title: The Banner and the Cranes
Style: Ukiyo-e woodblock print (Edo period), in the manner of Hokusai and Hiroshige; Prussian blue bokashi gradients, visible woodgrain texture, carved cloud bands.
Prompt in ALT
A lone ashigaru foot soldier stands on a mist-wreathed promontory at dawn, gripping a tattered sashimono banner that snaps in the wind. Below, a retreating army dissolves into sea fog; a flight of red-crowned cranes crosses the pale sky while a single feather drifts down toward a discarded kabuto helmet resting in the grass. The scene breathes mono no aware — the sorrow of beautiful, fleeting things. Style: Ukiyo-e woodblock print (Edo period), in the manner of Hokusai and Hiroshige; Prussian blue bokashi gradients, visible woodgrain texture, carved cloud bands. Composition: High horizon line in the upper third; the banner forms a bold vertical S-curve anchoring the frame; soldier small at lower-left; cranes carry the eye across sweeping negative space with flattened, layered perspective. Lighting: Flat, shadowless dawn light rendered entirely in layered color gradients — pale apricot bokashi at the horizon bleeding upward into indigo; luminous, even, painterly illumination. Adjectives: solemn, transient, windswept, elegant, elegiac

I get to paint some Ashigaru again. Which is lovely. You do know that during the Sengoku period there were more firearms in Japan than there were in any European country?
