The question - was his late grandfather Jewish? Though Bernard's mother's maiden name was a likely Ashkenazic surname, all indications from the obituary indicate no, that he was Catholic. However, those same documents redact, no memory-hole, the name of the artist.

I did not realize that the general format is as old as the geonim, but I'm glad that my offline intuition that מי שברך לעולה is *not* old and is rather Ashkenazic was correct

You cannot divide Jews into bad, white Ashkenazic Jews and good brown Arab Jews because those catagories don’t map onto Jewish communities.

I have a tremendous amount of privilege, as a white middle-class Ashkenazic Jew who lives in a Western, industrialized nation.
But there's also currently a Christian Nationalist takeover happening in my country, so I'm concerned about (real) antisemitism proliferation.
