Ashnard gets a bad rap for being boring, but I still think that he's one of the best villains the series has had just because of what he represents for this specific reason imo

- either meets his ideals with complete bewilderment (Ike specifically legitimately can't comprehend what he's saying because it's entirely incompatible with the world as he's experienced it) or just want to rip him to shreds. All of which feed exactly into what Ashnard wants anyway. Love FE9!

One Million Civilians is easily the highest amount of death directly given in any FE game. And we aren't even at the Problems Dragon yet. Medeus, Sombron, Ashnard, the entire Fodlan war, none of them would've come close to this level of death! Only possibly do Manfroy and Loptyr approach this number

If that's what it takes to be just, then I want nothing to do with justice. I'd rather be hated and feared like Mad King Ashnard. I'd rather the dark god take my soul. I'm going to save my people, Sothe. If the rest of the world paints me as a beast to be reviled and hated, so be it.

I didn't even know he was an option by how little I see people talk about it. I knew about Naesala and Tibarn but not Giffca... Mystery...

But since Ashnard moves on other difficulties, I don't see why not pick Giffca in situations where Ashnard is alrdy into your troops. That's why I was shocked when I saw Giffca as an option and didn't know about him. (The "no one" option stays the most shocking though. Way to torture yourself x0)

I thought Tibarn or Naesala would come depending on what you did in game too (Like if you manage to talk to naesala in the level you're against him and make his raven retreat instead of killing him would mean Naesala would be here for Ashnard instead of Tibarn. I was in the mud.)

Haha! Figured it was because people prefer flying units. They really find them that much fun.
I figure Giffca could really come clutch if you need a extremely high att/def unit and playing on anything else than normal/easy where Ashnard doesn't move (no way I'm walking up those stairs)

I miss the days when being able to inherit skills was the most broken thing in Feh. I quit so long ago that I still missed the worst point it got. At least it occasionally drops a fire alt like Plegian Dorothea/Lene and Berserk Ashnard.

Yeah there’s a lot I really love in the presentation of the villains too. Like how Lekain knows nothing about the actual plot, how Ashnard wants a world reset, it’s all so interesting

I think its also why Sephiran is my favorite antagonist in the series.
The idea that after thousands of years of conflict, the world is beyond saving because there will always be people like Lekain and Ashnard.
But that humanity has a right to endure in spite of that truth is so beautiful to me.

tbh ashnard slaying is a pretty big factor for Ike's placement. Killing ashnard without a trained Ike is.... not fun at all

I think FE is way too shackled to the same old archetypes. Red Emperor, with an Evil Cult behind them, trying to revive the Problem Dragon.
I think Ashnard was the last one who was both decent, and didn’t have a shittjer villain pulling his strings.

nephenee in my first fe9 run got more points of magic (20%) than strength (40%) so i gave her the flame lance. she had enough magic to damage ashnard if he didn't nullify damage. what in the fresh fuckery was that
