BioScout—an Australian startup behind an AI-powered early warning system alerting farmers to fungal pathogens—has raised an A$6.75 million ($4.8 million) seed round co-led by Demea Sustainable Investment and Astanor. The round—which was also backed by GrainInnovate, GrainCorp Ventures, Hort Innovation Venture Fund, Artesian, and Division Q—will help the Sydney-based firm boost its presence in Europe and expand its global network of sensors from 250 to 1,000 units by 2029. “BioScout is one of those rare companies that solves a massive, urgent problem, whilst also building a unique and powerful dataset that amplifies the impact,” said Astanor partner Harry Biggs. “Fungal threats are the scariest threats to most farmers, yet farmers remain mostly blind to the threat until it’s too late, so they have to over-spray harmful chemicals or risk catastrophe.
