I love the idea of an OS that’s not tied to a major tech company but it’s not it for me. i wholeheartedly recommend AtlasOS, a Windows variant that does some massive debloating and kills all of the recent bullshit from MS.

Anyone got a clue about Windows 10 alts. I've got a very serviceable Dell gaming laptop which can't be upgraded to Windows 11. I pretty much only use it as a Plex server now, which works fine.

J'ai testé pour vous : la réinstallation Windows 11 "fresh" en suivant la doc d'AtlasOS
Résultat : déjà l'installation de base est clean (pas de bloatware) et ensuite les scripts AtlasOS nettoie le reste de merde si vous le voulez (OneDrive, Edge, mais aussi plein d'autres petits trucs)..

I was going to suggest puppy linux, but I haven't heard of AtlasOS and it is probably better for most people with existing apps they need/want

Running locals on a Windows 11 PC went fine. With AtlasOS and some customization it feels just like Windows 10, without all the bloat attached to it, and it worked out well.

I just reinstalled W11 by following all the steps given by AtlasOS and 1) it force install the international version of W11 with no bloatware/widgets, 2) AtlasOS playbook allows to uninstall things like Onedrive and Edge in one click.

Update, CachyOS (Linux) and AtlasOS (Windows) are both installed now! I am now mostly free!!!
Rn diving straight into setting up a dual-boot install from scratch!

All that said, if you must stay on Windows for some reason that can't be controlled. Potentially consider AtlasOS or similar. It's not as simple to install as Windows, but it is performatively better, and the Windows specific bloat is gutted.
