#Auks
In the high arctic I saw what I thought was an Auk and described it to a local. “Oh yeah you saw the Fuck You Bird! Listen next time”
I did and yes its call was unmistakably “fuckyou! Fuckyouu!” Still wonder if all auks are FYBs or if he was suggesting this spirit had a message just for me

Miserable morning at Ardnamurchan Point with rain, SW gales, poor visibility …however, it delivered the birds with hundreds of gannets, kittiwakes & auks heading south joined by a few Manxies and 2 super Sooty Shears.

In 1844, the very last known pair of Great Auks on Earth were tracked down and strangled by hunters while incubating their final egg, simply to be sold to a museum collection.

The calm after the storm! There was a big clear-out of birds on Shetland last night, but there were lots of very tired auks along the shoreline of Reawick this afternoon. Here, a Common Guillemot (left) and a Razorbill (front right) cruised the shoreline together.

kinda like how penguins are named after the scientific name for the great auk cuz they looked similar, but it turns out they aren't closely related and then we hunted the auks to extinction and so now we have to say that great auks looked similar to penguins
