Chinese sailors ate mung beans & tofu grown on their ships, Polynesians and Austronesians ate raw fish, Inuit and other indigenous ppl ate seals, and Arabs literally just Knew about oranges and sailed so efficiently tjat their sailors always had fresh food

just very briefly that sail technology was VERY poor (couldn't move against the wind, etc.) and you had to have oars or else you'd be stuck in the middle of the water
