Born in 2004, rarely spoke in kindergarten and primary school, did & understood things differently. And the consequence was that I was bullied for it. The only people that stand by my side were my mom & dad along with my friends.

I learned that it's nothing wrong for being what I am now.

Since it's #AutismAwarnessMonth, let me tell you what MELTDOWNS are like for me. I only figured out the #autism about a year ago, ADHD 30yrs ago.
I feel emotions intensely & express them *dramatically*, often crying, yelling &/or screaming.
Sensory issues are HUGE for me, especially cold air…

I have just read the MA dissertation (on cyberpunk) submitted by a student who is autistic, and I couldn't be prouder of their achievement. I'm learning more as a tutor, I'm sure, than they are learning as my tutoree. It's simply awesome! 🏆

A huge part of my AuDHD are sensory issues, hypersensitivity to hot/cold, air moving on me, taste & smell differences/loss that are getting worse & textures, especially in my mouth. I'm losing more weight cuz practically nothing tastes or FEELS right. Especially meat.

The dinner was her 'favourite', i.e. it was Friday so it was chips, and she wasn't being asked to eat anything other than chips. Staff were frustrated. Why wouldn't she eat? I was the autistic adult who would not have been able to eat my favourite food either amongst the commotion of the school dinner hall and with the scent of the freshly cleaned floors infecting the taste of the food. I carried her chips to the table outside where, once she had stopped crying, she ate the lot. I can voice this because I have access to mouthwords. I understood her experience because it is my experience. To help autistic people listen to autistic voices.
