This makes the diamond dust slide not be affected by your joystick and instead uses your camera position. And it works fast enough to be used for moving twice/3 times

SO! I think this is actually good news as it's easily repeatable, I have a good performance metric, I can even save off the paths to make sure they don't change, and the conditions are quite clear AND match up with reports of scenarios that get slow for automove and AI behavior.

Yeah, that autopilot feeling is generally one I want to avoid inducing in my own games, unless it's like, an idle game or something (always exceptions!).
Great example, though - for sure many people would consider automove to be a QoL "no-brainer" feature, but your reasoning makes perfect sense.

the game doesn't even make it easy to turn off! the primary way it teaches you to summon your mount *always* puts it into automove mode, and while you can work around this you've gotta change like 3 settings to make it ergonomic

On a clouded, crowded board (lots of different card values, piles almost the same length, etc.), using your eyes to see what to do next will be tedious & take time. What you see, actually, is that you should ask for an hint (aka automove); faster, and the algo is dependable enough.

yup, *and* it has a multiple smart quick-move options: you can automove to stairs and other important objects, you can say "travel east as far as possible" and similar, and you can do autoexplore. all three stop when you encounter something potentially dangerous.

Something I complained about in the Pathologic 3 demos was that they got rid of the open world in favour of having you automove around much of the town. Turns out I was wrong and you can still go to every district if you want, it just lets you skip past ones where nothing is happening if you want.
