Best cooking machine EVER! :D I just need to figure out why my pressure autorelease isn't working right now.

Objective-C had autorelease pools as a sort of gc-less deallocator based on ref counting, and way back when, zoned memory, but gc is simpler and probably faster

Newer dishwashers open the door automatically at the end of the cycle. See Samsung's AutoRelease, Bosch's AutoAir, LG's AutoOpen, etc.

You can still do the new in current objective-C?

And you can do list[0] now too?

And no need for autorelease if you do ARC?

A lot of the work I did was in the days before automatic reference counting (manual alloc/retain/release/autorelease) and THAT was awful

I worked in the era of “let’s make Mac apps look/animate like iOS apps” and it was hell on earth trying to get AppKit to things it was not designed for

objective-c with manual retain/release to SwiftUI is a massive jump. did claude handle the memory management translation well or did you end up rewriting most of it from scratch? i find it gets confused by autorelease pools and tries to add explicit retain calls in swift

PKD invented *everything*. RT @autorelease: Philip K. Dick invented the rickroll in 1954. <a href="http://t.co/yVtLiAyuCE" class="hover:underline text-blue-600 dark:text-sky-400 no-card-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link="bsky">http://t.co/yVtLiAyuCE

do u know about autorelease
February 21, 2026 at 3:39 AM
Ughh I was trying to document how the Objective-C autorelease optimization works, but I realized there's like 3×3×3 cases to consider. Some of them are the same, but I may need to actually write them down to understand *which* ones are the same and how to explain it in a coherent way...
