Import Alert: India Drug Maker Recalls Cholesterol Meds Due To Manufacturing Defects
Zydus Pharmaceuticals, one of India’s largest generic drug makers, recalled over 22,000 bottles of a cholesterol medication on Dec. 30, 2025. AvKare, a Tennessee-based pharmaceuticals distribution company that relies on imports, recalled around 7,900 cartons of Rosuvastatin, a widely used generic statin, a day later.

Check your kitchen and medicine cabinet for the products impacted by four major recalls this week (May 12–18). The items were pulled from shelves due to potential health and safety risks, including Listeria concerns, undeclared allergens, foreign material contamination, and a sterility issue in eye care products. More than 75,000 cases of eye care products, distributed nationwide by AvKARE, were recalled over a potential sterility issue. A Food and Drug Administration audit at BRS Analytical Services, LLC, the pharmaceutical lab that created the products, revealed a potential manufacturing issue. This may lead to products of “unacceptable quality,” AvKARE said, with a possible health risk for patients.
