No, I’m afraid not. AviList currently treat it as conspecific pending more research. Therefore the BOU follow suit.

No no no no NO!

Just seen the 2026 AviList updates. Wren has been changed from Troglodytes troglodytes to 'Nannus troglodytes'.

Nannus? I don't bloody think so. Forever Troglodytes. And this is the hill I will die on.

I've spent most of the weekend working through the Avilist changes : gained 11 and lost two and amazed that Wren is no longer Troglodytes troglodytes.

That’s what i thought thanks. Moot point right now as lumped by Avilist/BOU but the possibility of a re split in future as it’s one of a very small number of species retained as a split by Clements/eBird

Thanks, that’s actually what I thought. It’s interesting given the list I checked said it followed AviList. All very confusing. 🤔

AviList, the unified global bird checklist, published its first major revision on 20 October, introducing taxonomic changes affecting several familiar European birds:
AviList update splits Mediterranean Flycatcher, Maghreb Wheatear and Canary Islands Robin
The first major revision of the global bird checklist since its 2025 launch recognises several species of particular interest to European birders, alongside changes to the scientific names of familiar birds including Eurasian Wren and Common Reed Bunting.

Why do AviList call Myrmecocichla aethiops ‘Anteater Chat’ and M. formicivora ‘Ant-eating Chat’. What was wrong with Northern and Southern Anteater Chat? Or why not change both to Northern and Southern Ant-eating Chat? Where is the logic here? I need reasons! #nomenclature #ornithology 😵‍💫

Does taxonomy ever? 😉

Decision summary (from Avilist v2026):
The genus Nannus is reinstated for Troglodytes troglodytes, T. hiemalis, and T. pacificus as proposed by Rice (1999) and supported by the genetic data of Barker (2017) and Imfeld et al. (2024)... 1/3
