#Avoidance
We do not have a welfare crisis, we have a tax avoidance crisis

This I love because there as been an avoidance of even truly describing addictive design
BREAKING: Netherlands tables bill to ban addictive design.

Like any other unsafe product, when digital products are unsafe they should be removed from the market.

The proposal applies to social media, games, dating apps, chatbots.

EU level ban to follow?

If the Coen Brothers made a film about tax avoidance, it would star solicitor Paul Baxendale-Walker.

He made a fortune selling hopeless tax avoidance schemes, bought Loaded magazine, starred in porn films, and ended up struck off, bankrupt and convicted of forgery.

I remember when Gordon Brown cut 31,000 staff from the tax service and slashed the budget for fighting tax avoidance by 48%, to "save money". Cameron then cut HMRC by a further 15%. At the time, I remarked "It’s like cutting your household bills by deciding to stop commuting to work."
Utter madness.
HMRC chasing tax debts of £43.8bn.

£20.2bn may not be collected, cost of living, rising bankruptcy pressures.

HMRC uses 103 IT systems, front line staff use on average 17 software programmes to deal with a straightforward case.

Years of under investment takes toll.
HMRC makes progress on tackling tax debt, but faces challenge from older, harder to collect debts - NAO press release
HMRC has had success in reducing tax debt as a proportion of tax receipts for 3 consecutive years, but older debt is becoming hard to collect

For avoidance of doubt:

IPR supports trans rights and BIMPOC creators and gamers.

Fascists, Nazis, and TERFs can all fuck right off.

Misdirection by UK media that doesn’t want you to ask about the tax avoidance of its billionaire owners!
“welfare is rising out of control!” – screams the right wing press.

“welfare” spending in the UK (as a percentage of GDP)

1985 – 11.5%

1995 – 12.2%

2005 – 10.8%

2015 – 11.3%

2025 – 10.9%

So, why all the fuss?

For avoidance of doubt this isn't an argument in favour of internet connected refrigerators (they shouldn't be on the internet).

It's a point about the limitations of "just disconnect everything" as a philosophy where connectivity is a big part of how everything gets done.

I have been lucky, with deliberate avoidance, to not hear All I Want for Christmas in years.

There is a principle in human psychology that I’ve been thinking about heading into today:

Human beings will take greater risks to avoid a loss than to protect a gain.

Consumers are currently losing. In red states, voting for a democrat promising change is less of a ‘risk’ than ‘loss avoidance.’

I know you know this, but for the avoidance of doubt as to who is actually responsible for this!

For the avoidance of doubt:
Spray painting a swastika and “free Palestine” on the school bus of an American antizionist yeshiva is not more antisemitic than spray painting a swastika and “free Palestine” on the school bus of an American zionist yeshiva.

The most impressive aspect of Nyoni’s 1st start was the miraculous avoidance of at least one yellow card!

Linguists have theorised that he's actually always been David Williams, people just created the other name as a taboo-avoidance euphemism.

I know you don't.

But all your avoidance is doing is incriminating you further.

Every avoidance of responsibility, every occasion of blaming, every lie only buries his rancid fat ass deeper into the grave.

Add voting machines to my avoidance of public restrooms. This gets my vote for mail in voting. 😁

Quite agree. UK press getting their knickers in a twist over it. There are bigger issues in the world and the UK they should get het up about, like corruption, wars, tax avoidance plus a myriad of other things.
