Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation lodges DA for 1,500MW hybrid project in Western Australia
YEC is a partnership between the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation and the Philippines-based ACEN Corporation, with Yindjibarndi holding between 25% and 50% of project-level equity in the company’s renewable energy developments and retaining primary land tenure across project areas. Baru Marnda is proposed to include up to 1,000MW of wind generation and up to 500MW of solar generation, alongside a battery energy storage system (BESS). The Development Application draws together assessment work spanning planning, environment, cultural heritage, water, transport, bushfire, noise, visual impact, aviation and land tenure. At a national scale, the proposed wind component places Baru Marnda within the emerging class of gigawatt-scale Australian wind projects, and within Western Australia, its proposed capacity would make it one of the state’s largest onshore wind developments. The project would connect renewable energy generated on site to the North West Interconnected System (NWIS), the isolated grid serving the Pilbara’s mining and industrial operations, and was first referred for assessment under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act in July 2025, when YEC proposed up to six potential solar array sites northwest and southeast of the Rio Tinto rail corridor, with four to be included in the final design. Construction was expected...

OGX Group ventures into renewable energy with HYXI distributorship
KUALA LUMPUR: OGX Group Bhd is expanding into renewable energy following the appointment of its wholly-owned subsidiary, OGX Green Tech Sdn Bhd, as an authorised Malaysian distributor for China-based energy storage and inverter specialist Zhejiang Hyxi Technology Co Ltd (HYXI). In a statement, the IT infrastructure solutions provider said OGX Green Tech will market, distribute and sell HYXI products in Malaysia, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverters and batteries. The new business will target residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, as well as Malaysia’s growing data centre market. OGX said it plans to tap demand for energy storage solutions from data centre operators seeking cleaner and more resilient alternatives to conventional diesel backup generators amid rising artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data-intensive workloads. The group said the move into renewable energy complements its existing enterprise data centre solutions business and allows it to leverage its customer relationships, technology capabilities and systems integration expertise. OGX executive director and managing director Tan Suan Loong said the HYXI appointment provides the group with a platform to establish and scale its presence in the energy storage segment. “The appointment by HYXI brings together its technology and product expertise in energy storage solutions...

How Sembcorp Is Aiming To Boost Its BESS, RTC and FDRE Pipeline With New IPO Plan?
After the entry of several renewable energy companies into the Indian stock market, more renewable Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are now looking to jump onto the bandwagon. The latest entrant is Singapore-based Sembcorp’s Indian renewable energy arm, Sembcorp Green Infra. The company has proposed a ₹3,750-crore IPO at a time when it is expanding beyond conventional wind and solar projects into battery energy storage systems (BESS), round-the-clock (RTC) power, and firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects. Sembcorp Green Infra is preparing to tap the public markets with a ₹3,750-crore initial public offering, but the company's proposed use of the proceeds suggests that the issue is as much about strengthening its balance sheet as it is about supporting its next phase of growth. The proposed issue is entirely a fresh issue of equity shares. There is no offer-for-sale component. Of the proceeds, ₹3,000 crore is proposed to be used for repayment or prepayment of certain borrowings of the company and its subsidiaries, with the balance earmarked for general corporate purposes. The draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) was filed with SEBI in September. In the latest move, SEBI has now asked the company to furnish more details towards the issue, a...

Google-backed pilot demonstrates hourly carbon accounting for US BESS using granular certificates
The companies explained that BESS has traditionally been difficult to represent in carbon accounting, as renewable matching has been measured against annual targets whilst the value of storage is inherently hourly. However, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a corporate climate action organisation, is beginning to require hourly reporting for large energy users, and the GHG (greenhouse gases) Protocol is currently evaluating how to address this issue. The pilot was designed to demonstrate both a commercial pathway that gives BESS operators a carbon-based revenue stream and a tracking pathway that accurately accounts for and retires the hourly certificates behind it. Google contracted for defined daily charging and discharging windows based on forecasted gaps in carbon-free energy generation, and the operators dispatched their batteries in line with those guidelines. Contract structure maintains operator control The agreements had a distinctive structure: Google contracted with the battery operators to time-shift environmental attributes it already owned, without tolling the batteries or assuming any merchant or dispatch risk. This structure left the operator in full control of their assets, including pre-defined flexibility to pursue energy price signals and to respond to grid emergencies. Over the pilot period, the batteries charged with renewable energy during the...

For short-circuit/fault current contribution specifically: SC still has an edge, since it can source several times its rated current from physical excitation for a sustained period, whereas inverter-based BESS is current-limited by its power electronics to roughly 1.0–1.2× rated current.
