Seeing in the Dark Season with a cinema trip to see the restored full cut of The Devils. Can't wait to find out if it lives up to the hype. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the Derek Jarman set design!

1 November 1977. Mike Leigh's successful stage play, Abigail's Party, starring Alison Steadman, was broadcast in the BBC TV Play For Today series. In 2000 it was placed 5th in a BFI list of the 100 Greatest British TV Programmes.

Y’all- go run to @shudder.com because they added Sweeney Todd (1928) and I’m pretty sure this is the first time it’s streamed because BFI had the sole copy. I really hope this means a physical edition is on the way!

BFI day for Blake's 7 But There's No Blake And There Are 5 Of Them! 😉 (and we have a last minute spare ticket so if you can be at the by downstairs bar before midday please enquire with me)

Not actual footage of today, unless the BFI bar staff have been on a space cocktails course recently.

If you heard Ian Christie enthuse about Hold Back the Dawn when discussing Casablanca recently on In Our Time, I see it’s showing at the BFI today as part of the Billy Wilder season (also Nov 22) www.bfi.org.uk

The New Statesman was unimpressed: “there isn't a character in it worth a curse, and there isn't a thought in it worth remembering”

The BBFC banned attempts to film an adaptation in the 1930s: the material regarded as “dangerous”..

Was finally adapted in 1941 with Clifford Evans and Deborah Kerr
