There are 17 companions in BG2. There are 10 in BG3 and about half of them are what I’d consider “complete.” Approximately 50,000 times more effort went into BG3’s companions.

Baldur's Gate 3 is mechanically and visually superior to BG1 and BG2.
But Jon Irenicus, the antagonist of BG2, is the best villain out of all 3 games.
Compared to BG3's villains, Irenicus is intelligent, sinister, and philosophical.
He might be one of the best video game villains of all time.
