#BIOSHIFTS
The #BioShifts working group made it to Science & Vie 🤩 I used to read this French scientific outreach magazine back in the late 1990's 😍 My teenager me couldn't imagine that 😅 I am so proud for the #BioShifts team 🌳🌲🌴🪻🐸🦋🪸🐠 Our research funding body #FRB will also be happy 😁

After 4yr of hard work to compare empirical species range positions' shifts from the #BioShifts DB against predictions from niche-based models trained on climate & tailored to methodological attributes of each species & study, we found species shift ahead of models' predictions! 🦋

This week, we had our last #BIOSHIFTS group meeting at wonderful #CESAB in beautiful #Montpellier 🇨🇵 This is the end of a 3-yr funded synthesis project punctuated by 6 workshops but hopefully not the end of our #journey w/ a wonderful team on board ⛵

Exotic plants are better at hitchhiking upslope 🏔 than natives ⬇️ A very important result which supports former findings on exotic plants shifting and expanding their elevation ranges upslope at a rapid pace #RangeX #BioShifts 🧪🌐🌏🍁

Does genetic diversity help species keep up with, or tolerate, climate change? 🌡️🌍

Our new BioShifts paper shows that high genetic diversity 🧬:
1) Reduces range contractions under fast warming
2) Accelerates range expansion under moderate warming

Genetic Diversity Impacts Climate‐Induced Species Range Shifts
Genetic diversity may buffer species against climate-driven range contractions and facilitate expansions, but its role at a global scale remains unclear. Using 4673 range shift estimates for 1888 spe....

Excited to share our new paper in @pnas.org! Comparing >9,500 range shifts from #BioShifts with climate-based niche models across land and sea, we find species often outpace their modeled climatic niches.
