£1 Million Payday on the Line: Bare-knuckle Brawler Matty Floyd Flew to an English Pub for a Showdown, Billy Joe Saunders Skipped. Matt Floyd made the trip. Billy Joe Saunders ghosted as the Australian bare-knuckle brawler got stood up at an English pub car park. This bizarre incident was the designated start of negotiations for a massive Bare Knuckle FC (BKFC) showdown. “Sent us an area code of a pub he was at,” Floyd told World Boxing News. “We flew straight over for a scrap.” “The postcode sent us to a random spot with a couple of pubs, so we checked both. Where’s Billy Joe?” Undeterred, Floyd says he’ll return tonight. “I’ll be there again tomorrow, where you said you’d be, or I’ll see you in Birmingham on February 28th.” Pub Banter Turns Into Real Fight Offer What started as online trash talk quickly escalated into a serious BKFC fight proposal. Floyd, who controversially lost to James DeGale in BKFC, confirmed the offer to WBN is genuine and backed by the promotion. “I want to fight Billy Joe Saunders in a proper fight,” Floyd said. “BKFC is on board and ready to give him a huge paycheck to make this happen.” Floyd claims Saunders has avoided direct contact after initially “pricing himself out” of the BKFC fight. He even suggested a split-purse deal to get the Floyd vs Saunders fight finalized: “Divide your purse in two. You said that yourself. Let’s do it.” Billy Joe Saunders ghosted his own fight meeting! 🤯 Bare-knuckle challenger @Mattythejedi Floyd flew to the UK, waited at two pubs near the postcode Saunders gave him, and the former world champ was a no-show for the BKFC showdown. Floyd says he’s trying again tonight. Will… pic.twitter.com/buwHbko5ew — World Boxing News (@WorldBoxingNews) November 12, 2025 Saunders Fires Back Inactive since losing to Canelo Alvarez in 2021, Saunders responded online with his trademark bravado. He promised a face-to-face encounter but insisted nobody had formally contacted him. “I would absolutely splatter you all over the place. I could be drunk and still beat you,” Saunders wrote. He added a challenge to Floyd’s team: “Trust me, you’ll never meet a man like me face-to-face. Get them to contact me directly. When you’re serious, contact me personally instead of third parties.” The Ghosted Showdown: £1m on the Line While packed with insults and pub banter, Floyd insists the fight can happen if Saunders engages seriously. The line between street-level fury and sanctioned combat is blurring. BKFC insiders say the promotion is ready to make Saunders a massive payday. Money is clearly no longer the obstacle. Viral Feud: Floyd’s Next Move Tonight Social media has erupted over the feud. Clips of Floyd ready for a pub showdown went viral globally, highlighting Saunders’ curious no-show for the millions on the table. Floyd is back at the pub tonight. Will Saunders risk the £1 million tonight — or ghost Floyd again? About the Author Phil Jay is a veteran boxing journalist with over 15 years of experience covering the global fight scene.
