Have you guys seen this 1984 British advert for Mini Cheddars? It was made by animation legend Richard Williams, famous for being the animation director of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and for his unfinished movie "The Thief and the Cobbler"

Rhian Davies (contralto)
Rhian Davies is a graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she completed her postgraduate studies under Teresa Cahill. Prior to this, Rhian graduated from the University of Cambridge, having read Music at Robinson College as an alto choral scholar. Praised for her'remarkable theatricality' and 'rich alto', Rhian performed the role of Mrs Sedley with British Youth Opera in their 2025 production of Peter Grimes at Saffron Hall and Cadogan Hall. Prior to this, she has performed the roles of Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas) with Opera Asteria (2022 and 2023) and La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica) with Opera Greenwich (2023). She enjoyed reprising the role of Sorceress with the Thames Consort in October 2025. She also had the pleasure of creating the role of Lucy in Josh Kaye's chamber opera Outlier, premiering it at Tétea Tête (2022). She is delighted to have been part of the 2025 cohort of British Youth Opera's Serena Fenwick Programme, and has enjoyed recently performing in productions of Don Carlos and Krishna as part of Grange Park Opera's chorus in June and July this year. Recent success on the concert platform has included work with the conductor Joe Davies. She sang as alto soloist for him in a performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 3 at the Sheldonian Theatre in March, and as second alto soloist in a performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 8 at Coventry Cathedral in May Upcoming engagements in 2026 include a return to British Youth Opera as Baba in their summer production of The Rake's Progress, and work with Wexford Festival Opera, performing as part of their chorus and singing the role of La ville joueuse suspecte in Prokfiev's The Gambler.

(Photos by @createdbyrcw) Thanks to Jenna Shows for yet another wild ride through the tangential mindscape that is her perspective on & view of life. Whether she is belting out show tunes & modern rock anthems or engaging the audience in stream of barely consciousness or wrestling unruly & unusual stage props, Jenna is mesmerizing, enthralling & confusing, often in the exact same breath. With elements of clown, improv & British dance hall, last night’s (The) Jenna Show(s) was more of a lived & shared experience than a theatrical work-in-progress. Kudos also to Sweet Action Theatre’s Gordon Neill & his real-time directorial efforts & audience engagement, & to Emily Jeffers’ juggling of lighting & music over the creative maelstrom. And shout out to opening act Phoebe Taylor who took the audience through her own telephonic odyssey in pursuit of the ever-elusive follow-up medical appointment in today’s Canada. This was one determined Valkyrie who took the wheel on this joy ride.

Part of David Bowie's exhibit at the RNR HOF in Cleveland (I've seen it myself, though this is not my picture). On the right, is the back view of the British flag themed coat he wore on the cover of the "Earthling" album. (This iss inside the case). It has some wear and tear to it. In the background, is a large picture of Bowie on stage with a microphone in his right hand. He is wearing a cross necklace, and looks like he has an open book in his hand. In the foreground, next to the "Earthling" trench coat, is a model of one of his stage layouts for one of his concert tours. I'm thinking it might be for one of his '80's tours.

I fear, in the late #1950s the British #teenager was held in low esteem, considered to be addicted to pleasure and obsessed with "playing ‘pop’ records, reading romantic magazines and fiction paper-backs, going to the cinema and the dance hall” (@financialtimes.com, 28 November 1958, 13).

British Comedy Classics • 12h • Geoffrey Palmer referred to Jon Pertwee as a "straight Bruce Forsyth" because of Pertwee's background in variety entertainment and his highly disciplined approach to performance. It was a comparison rooted in professional observation rather than humour, reflecting how Pertwee's earlier career shaped the way he later played the Doctor. Before Doctor Who, Jon Pertwee was best known as a versatile comedy performer and "song and dance man". His work in music hall traditions, radio comedy such as The Navy Lark, and variety shows gave him strong presentational skills and a confident physical presence. Like Bruce Forsyth, he understood timing, movement and how to command attention - skills he later brought into a dramatic leading role. Palmer's use of the word "straight" referred to Pertwee's precision rather than his personality. While Forsyth was associated with improvisation and looseness, Pertwee was known as a stickler for technical detail. He learned lines exactly, expected cues to be hit accurately, and approached performance with a strict professionalism. This discipline underpinned his more flamboyant Doctor, giving structure and control to what might otherwise have been a showy performance. Geoffrey Palmer worked directly with Pertwee on The Silurians (1970) and The Mutants (1972). Their styles were very different - Palmer's acting was understated and dry, while Pertwee's Doctor was energetic, gadget-driven and physically active - but there is no record of personal conflict. Palmer's remark has generally been taken as a dry, respectful assessment rather than criticism. Pertwee was widely regarded as supportive of his co-stars, though demanding about standards, while Tom Baker later described him as a "stylish actor", joking that they were "two alpha males with big egos" and teasing him about having "a head like a light bulb".
