respirators work against all BSL3 viruses, which include TB, anthrax and…wait for it… covid
Two people dead in the tuberculosis outbreak in Kansas, yet we’ve spent all week listening to RFK Jr lie, deflect and make a mockery out of public health.

The CDC are prohibited from sharing updates.

We deserve better. Wear a mask. Ideally an N95 or better. Hand out extras. Give to mask blocs
TB is not your friend....

This is what happens when you lose control of immune damaging virus.

Without proper TTQI, it will spread more widely and drug resistance becomes a looming issue

Von „drüben“ geklaut, finde das sehr passend.

degrowthers should be kept far away from BSL3 labs

This section continues with more simple errors. The quoted text was removed from the application because the application was changed to propose work at BSL3 rather than BSL2. That would've been BSL3, not BSL4, work done by Baric's group at UNC.

Tangent: we should be funding more BSL3 and BSL4 labs, not closing them.

Love to go pants-free in my BSL3

Researcher: And this is our new space.
Me: Oh! You have the former BSL3 lab.
Researcher: Say what now?
Me: It was just radioactive tuberculosis. All clean now.
Researcher: WHAT!??!
Me: Hey, cheer up! We got one Nobel out these rooms. Maybe you'll get another.

Not a single BSL4 lab on the entire chart.

BSL3 labs are for more hazardous items that feature precautions like "the windows don't open", "no carpets allowed", and "technicians must wear aprons".

What a load of tripe...

Me: This was a very educational room for me too.
Researcher: How so?
Me: I learned how to calibrate expensive electronics in a BSL3.
Researcher: How is it different?
Me: Well, first you need a very large grant and continually buy new things after autoclaving the old electronics.
Researcher: ...

A land of contrasts

So, I am redoing my annual BSL-3 facility training, and this is how we have to dress to work with #SARSCoV2 in the Lab. I am investigating the same strain that is circulating everywhere, Omicron variants KP.2 and KP.3. What do you think? 🙇

Once the plan was to accept living with a BSL3 airborne virus, the plan automatically was to live with all airborne viruses, BSL1 through 4.

And maybe I’m misunderstanding, but ideally shouldn’t the classification of a pathogen—or how pathogenic it is or not—be distinct from the availability of research facilities designated as a certain BSL? Strictly speaking, BSL3 pathogens should be handled in a BSL3 lab, right?

In BSL3 gear, avoiding the pathogen issue.

I still do all this too. I'm not mucking around with a BSL3 virus that comes from bats.

Bat viruses are notoriously horrible and we have only been exposed to this one for 5 years. It could have loads of progressive-disease phases to come.

The Barber lab is looking to hire post-docs to work on #tuberculosis #immunology using murine and NHP models. BSL3 experience not required. Check out our lab in the NIH intramural program in Bethesda MD!

NB.1.8.1 is going to be Wave #15 of a BSL3 virus which degrades neurological functions. We've skipped the Dark Ages and are headed straight towards the Neanderthal era.

Prior immunity to 1918 H1N1 also makes people less susceptible to infection, so this would further reduce risk of a lab acquired infection (and nobody is working with infectious 1918 outside of BSL3 so lots of other biosafety measures in place). You can also vaccinate for H1N1.

Spent this morning insisting via text to the person who exposed the farmhouse to covid that they need to inform their office coworkers they have covid. They don't want to.

In WKO; outbreak office is in Hamilton. Please mask up Aotearoa friends. This is a BSL3 pathogen and it's not "just a cold."

We are looking to hire post-docs to work on T cell responses to M. tuberculosis infection using murine and NHP models. If you know T cells and wanna work on the top global infectious killer check us out. BSL3 experience not required. The NIH intramural program in Bethesda MD is an amazing place!

We are looking for post-docs interested in studying T cell responses to M. tuberculosis infection…especially basic T cell immunologists who are interested in learning to work with BSL3 pathogens. The NIH intramural program is an amazing place to train!

[wipes tear] The many hours I spent calling manufacturers and the CDC over a decade ago to try to figure out how they calibrate and repair equipment in their BSL3/4 spaces finally paid off. Colleague had ALL the right questions to ask at the planning meeting she was invited to.

Value added is me.
