Let books be. Let books represent the beautiful, diverse world we live in and the many (oftentimes difficult) moments of life that readers of all ages experience. Let books serve as windows and mirrors, and let them do their job of saying “Hey, you’re not alone.”

Honestly if someone had told me as a kid that if nothing else worked (and we DID try absolutely everything) I could punch someone, I probably would have had a much easier time in school. 🤷🏼 But yeah, adults generally don't handle bullies. A lot of the time the adults WERE my bullies.

We are very imposing because we have a different culture based on protection of those in need so we are used to face bullies and to demand

As I continue writing I see how certain tropes come about. I often do write bullies for my protagonist to face but most of the time they are not the main bad guys and are just warm up for the protagonists. The problem is when those are the only bad guys in the story and you don’t flesh it out

Once when I was in HS, in the hall during class time, 2 big bullies were holding down a tiny kid, and punching him. I congratulate them on beating up someone 1/2 their size. They gawp and loosen their grip; tiny kid pops up and beats the #$HIT out of 1 bully and starts on the next in under a minute.

It’s interesting that bullying gets labeled as something kids do but the kids are usually repeating behaviors they experience from adults and projecting it onto their peers. Kids are bullies because it’s the norm in adult culture. Wake up!

We want to believe what bullies said was true because this way we don’t feel so disconnected from people, family. The courage is in believing the tiny voice inside us that knew we were lovable all along. The leap to trust that voice requires so much faith.
