Texas singer/songwriter B.W. Stevenson emerged in the early ‘70s as one of the architects of the progressive country movement. Bridging traditional country twang with folk-rock, pop, & blues, he helped define the relaxed Austin sound. #BWStevenson #ProgressiveCountry #OneHitWondered

Following the success of “My Maria,” RCA went right back to the same well. “The River of Love,” again written by Daniel Moore, was released in late 1973… and RCA expected another hit. It didn’t happen. The easygoing country-rock single stalled out at #53. #BWStevenson #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Instead of establishing B.W. Stevenson as a regular pop hitmaker, “The River of Love” marked the beginning of his retreat from the national singles charts, returning to the Texas singer/songwriter audience that had embraced him first. #BWStevenson #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

"My Maria" is a song co-written by #BWStevenson and #DanielMoore. Lindy Blaskey, a music publisher at ABC/Dunhill Records, thought Moore had a possible hit with his verse and chorus, but could not get him to finish the song, so Blaskey took what Moore had so far.

"Shambala" is a song written by #DanielMoore and made famous by two near-simultaneous releases in 1973: the better-known but slightly later recording by #ThreeDogNight, which reached No. 3 on the #Billboard Hot 100, and a version by #BWStevenson.
