for whatever reason 256.va and 256.vb in their 8MB forms wasn't jiving with the backbit platinum cart's memory map
what wound up working:
split 265.va into 265-v1.v1, 265-v2.v2
split 265.vb into 265-v3.v3, 265-v4.v4

spent a good chunk of the weekend getting SMKDAN's old neogeo diagnostics bios to work as a PROM and MROM -- you can load it on a flash cart such as the Backbit Platinum, Darksoft Multi, or NeoSD Pro

I have all the cables but am lacking games. Ended up ordering Metal Slug X and a Backbit Platinum flashcart so I should be set soon!!

Looking on ebay, a picture had a chip tester I might need. It was labeled backbit.io, but it's $200US. Too rich for my hobby blood. I'll have to learn another way.
16x non-socketed 4116 soldered tightly together so getting a single chip out is a chore without lifting a track or two 😬. Thing is, I have a BackBit Tester Pro which does the walk test on the CPU so I know the chip itself is good, or at least functional.

Also the backbit genassister which I have (no longer produced afaik) adapter which supported megadrive pads on C64 which works with c64 2nd button games.

to cut through some of the confusion about this, one thing that i think you can take away with a great deal of confidence is that weiss doesn't know what the words "due judicial review" mean

Cautiously optimistic here. The Intellivision II I got works, the IntelliVoice is a solid maybe, but the copy of Tron Solar Sailer is dead. Waiting for the Backbit Pro to get here to fully test.

if i ever stumble across a goddamn vectrex this shit supposedly has me covered as well, if this thing works as well as it presents itself the backbit might be one of the best bangs for your buck in the entire catalog of flash carts

My atari escapades have gotten me curious about colecovision/intellivision/atari 5200/odyssey 2 so if i ever see a cheap console of those lying around in theory i could just buy a 10-20 buck adapter for the backbit instead of buying a whole specific flash cart per system

just ordered an everdrive GG and im midkey taking a chance by getting the backbit multi-system flash cart for master system. If it works well i can get the adapters to use it on other early 80s systems down the line
