same energy for social media accounts that don't backlink, or consistently hold off backlinking until hours after the fact, to the point i've had to tell newer writers that no, that person is not a journalist, they just rip and post things from articles and don't credit them.
When independent media outlets like VGC are finally killed off, YouTube videos like this, which (despite appreciated praise) read our feature out verbatim, AFTER TURNING ON AD BLOCK, and then don’t mention us AT ALL, won’t have any content left to source

i see more moderation talk again. in the end we just need alternative appviews that work.
maybe if there could be one that instead of (slowly) backfilling everything (showing incorrect follower counts etc), it just does little backfills on demand that use backlinking? (idk if that’s even possible)

can't wait until the atmosphere cracks push-based backlinking, let me seamlessly backfill and livesteam aggregate backlinks + aggregates for a set of records, client-side.
The reason Im excited about running Jetstream V2 client-side is it turns last mile syncing from pull to push (when you know what you what to sync ahead of time). Very promising for the interesection between local-first and atproto

love this but i think it should be a norm on atproto that a record's functionality shouldn't depend on what its rkey is.
it adds no benefit and breaks backlinking norms.

Yes! We actually have a @semble.so backlinking service as one of our builtin plugins! Other integrations can be added using our plugin system.

YEAH ive been thinking the same thing. i turned the labels back on in each case to see if that's what it was but none of the posts in question have labels. this was one of my theories on what's happening, but what you describe seems just as likely and unfortunately more sus
Honestly I think they are mucking around with moderation and it wouldn't surprise me if labels are getting auto-applied, then corrected, but then never actually unhidden? Idk how things work as of late but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a bit buggy.

The biggest difference is literally laying human eyeballs on every newly created account every 24h and suspending the spammers. Aside from that: captcha on signup, changed the ToS agree box to "I agree to the ToS and understand using an account for marketing, SEO, or backlinking violates it",

Obsidian's knowledge management style of "it's just files pointing to each other" is kind of the correct one imo

Granted, the line between watching a thing for yourself and being blog brained is a precarious one. Still, there's a neat assurance in backlinking to yourself because you know you've already covered something in exactly the holistic way you want a topic covered for readers to click out to.
