#Backwater
There *may* be purple jurisdictions where this isn't true, and that's depressing, but there is no way the party should let the messaging required for that hypothetical backwater dictate what elected officials in safe seats say and do. Trans rights are human rights. Protect your neighbors.
TRANS RIGHTS ARE A WINNING POLITICAL ISSUE

Every single centrist claiming we must all compromise our bodily autonomy for their personal comfort is a traitor to American democracy & rational human decency.

They have no place in a modern Democratic Party, toss them out. Total liberation for all.
Zohran at the rally for trans youth on february 8 ❣️ he was polling single digits.

THE EARTH IS ISOLATED IN A BACKWATER OF THE UNIVERSE. NO HABITABLE PLANET ANYWHERE WE CAN GET TO. WE ARE SUCK HERE TOGETHER PROTECTED BY A THIN BLUE LINE THAT SEPARATES US FROM OBLIVION.

THE MEN WHO RULE THIS EARTH ARE KILLING IT. THEY ARE MONSTERS.

IF WE WANT TO LIVE WE HAVE TO REMOVE THEM.

Snippet from the drafts folder. Might this character and their plotline make it into the book? Some ideas have to go to make room for the story to breathe. So tricky. Argh!

The more I read about AI the happier I am to live in a beautiful little backwater country where smartphones are still a novelty.
I want nothing to do with it.
'Things may get ugly': Meta's new AI Muse is about to make the internet more annoying
Someday we'll redesign the internet for tools like this. Until then, you're in for a wild ride.

"It's genuinely quite relevant that for the critical early years in Afghanistan, we had more than 10x the troop levels over in Iraq on a mission with dubious legal and moral grounding while treating a much more legitimate effort as a backwater until it was too late." This is excellent👇
The war in Afghanistan wasn’t doomed and wasn’t an overreaction — Bush lost a just and winnable war by invading Iraq instead of securing the country.

Who lost Afghanistan?
George W. Bush blundered away a winnable war.

Would monks be seeking out remote areas for their monasteries? I see the article says it wasn't "a small island church in an overlooked backwater".

‘The finds have shown that rather than being a small island church in an overlooked backwater, the monastery of Lios Mór, founded by Saint Mo Luóc or Moluag (in the sixth century), was a high-ranking site of international importance’.
‘Hugely exciting’ finds on tiny Scottish island shed light on spread of Christianity
Community-funded archaeological excavations of ‘really important’ sixth-century monastery also rewrite story of Lismore

The killer argument IMO is to point to Alberta’s growing political and economic power within Confederation as a sign that the status quo is changing. Within my father’s lifetime the prairies have gone from a backwater to increasingly youthful, growing powerhouses within Canada.

Donald Trump supports data centers since he doesn't care about the climate damage from fossil fuels. He'd hand the auto industry's future (electric vehicles) to China and other countries who look ahead. USA may become an economic backwater like Russia where only oligarchs thrive.
