Like by all accounts most Fijian PMs have been monarchists. Bainimarama kept a QEII portrait on his desk. The Queen's Birthday is still a holiday. She was still paramount chief until death. They just didn't like the governor-general rebuking their coup to disenfranchise Indo-Fijians

I remember reflecting during Covid lockdowns on how living under martial law in Suva after the 2000 civilian coup was a rehearsal, and now watching Trumpian politics poison and pervert global order, how it felt when we had the Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum / Bainimarama regime, our own mad king dictatorship.
