The first ‘Copilot’ got coded by a guy at GitHub. Then he got handcuffed by cops for strangling a woman

Turns out she wasn’t the first he dated and strangled. Others posted their experience

Mugshot of Alex (Balabhadra) Graveley Arrest Warrant for Assault Strangulation. Here is the graphic description: Balabhadra pushed [] onto the bed and she stated that she was on her back and Balabhadra got on top of her with his knees holding down her shoulders. [] said that Balabhadra was squeezing her neck with both of his hands and causing her pain. [] said that the pressured used by Balabhadra was impairing her breathing and she could not breathe for a couple of seconds. [] told officers that she was able to get Balabhadra off of her by hitting and scratching him. [] stated that after she broke free from Balabhadra they began arguing again in the hallway and Balabhadra grabbed her throat again with both hands and he began squeezing. [] told officers that they were facing each other and the pressure that Balabhadra was applying to her neck was hurting her and making it difficult to breathe. [] was eventually able to break free and she ran into a room downstairs. When [] went into the downstairs bedroom Balabhadra followed her like before and he used his knees to hold her shoulders down. Balabhadra started to squeeze []’s neck again with both hands, and she was crying. Balabhadra eventually stoped and left the house. [] told officers she has pain on her throat, jaw, and shoulders. A thread on YCombinator.com on Alex Graveley’s early work on Copilot. My total comp for creating GitHub Copilot (twitter.com/alexgraveley) 180 points by FlamingMoe on June 20, 2023 | 180 comments pleonasticity on June 20, 2023 | I work on Copilot now, and I can say this guy is totally full of himself. Just because he contributed to the first prototype does not entitle him to claim creation. He wasn't even the first person inside Microsoft to use LLMs in an IDE completion experience. The work from prototype to product is an order of magnitude more than prototype alone. orph on June 20, 2023 | Orilly? We had no PM, EM, or designer: I played all those roles for 1.5 years. I was one of the first to touch the OAI code model. Me and Albert developed the in-the-wild testing harness still in use today. We pulled all nighters to get GitHub approved for participation in the MSFT-OpenAl deal using those test results. Existing Microsoft AI teams worked to halt our work, pushing their own small, worse models instead of OpenAl's. I protoyped and lobbied for creation of the VScode extension. I invented and hacked the ghost text prototype into VScode, I invented the block based termination and implemented all the tree-sitter based logic needed to do it. Then I had to lobby up to Satya to get Scode to implement proper support in less than 6 months. I named it Copilot.

During the festival, massive wooden chariots carrying Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are pulled through the streets by thousands of devotees.
Early European observers, unfamiliar with the cultural context, mistakenly believed devotees threw themselves under the chariots in self-sacrifice.

While I miss the huge ecstatic crowd of the Toronto Ratha Yatra, it was lovely getting to spend some time enjoying delicious prasadam while hearing, singing & dancing to kirtan.

And seeing the local deities was very special as well.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect!
