U.A.E. Central Bank Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama raised the idea of a currency-swap line with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Treasury and Federal Reserve officials in meetings in Washington last week, the officials said. The Emiratis emphasized that they had so far avoided the worst economic effects of the conflict but might still need a financial lifeline, the officials said.
The talks highlighted the U.A.E.'s concern that the war could inflict major damage on its economy and its position as a global financial hub, depleting its foreign reserves and scaring away investors who once saw it as a stable and secure place for their money. Samsun'da yaşayan hamile kadının iş başvurusunu reddeden şirkete, Türkiye İnsan Hakları ve Eşitlik Kurumu (TİHEK), "cinsiyet temelli doğrudan ayrımcılık"tan idari para cezası uyguladı.
Hamile olduğunu bildirmesinin ardından iş başvurusu reddedilen 31 yaşındaki Nilay Balama, iş başvurularında hamilelik ve çocuk sahibi olmanın engel olarak görülmesinin zorluklarını anlattı. Bilgisayar ve Öğretim Teknolojileri Öğretmenliği Bölümü mezunu olan Balama, KPSS hazırlıkları sonrası özel sektörde iş arayışına girdi. Balama, 2022 yılında mobilya ve beyaz eşya satan bir mağazaya yaptığı başvurunun hamile olduğu gerekçesiyle reddedilmesinin ardından Türkiye İnsan Hakları ve Eşitlik Kurumuna (TİHEK) şikayette bulundu. TİHEK, söz konusu şirkete "cinsiyet temelli doğrudan ayrımcılık" gerekçesiyle para cezası kesti.
"Çalışma hakkını kullanmamıza fırsat vermiyorlar"
Balama, çocuğu doğduktan sonraki iş görüşmelerinde de benzer ayrımcılığa maruz kaldığını belirtti. Yakın zamanda gittiği bir görüşmede de evli ve çocuklu olduğu için geri dönüş yapılmadığını belirten Balama, yaşadıklarını şu sözlerle anlattı:
"Evli, hatta çocuklu olan kadınları hiç işe almak istemiyorlar. Çocuğu hastalanacak, izin isteyecek diye düşünüyorlar. Bu nedenle 2-3 yıldır iş bulamıyorum. Anne olduğumuz için çalışmayalım mı? Biz de kendi ayaklarımızın üzerinde durmak istiyoruz. Okuyoruz, çabalıyoruz ve karşılığını almak istiyoruz. Bu tür olayların maddi boyutu var ama manevi açıdan da çok yıpratıcı. İnsan dürüst davranıyor ve hamile olduğunu söylüyor ama dürüstlüğün karşılığı ayrımcılık oluyor. Gerçekten çok üzücü bir durum. Çalışma hakkı temel haklarımızdan biri. Bu hakkı kullanmamıza fırsat vermiyorlar."
Benzer bir olayda bankaya ceza verilmişti
TİHEK, 2023 yılında verdiği başka bir kararında da hamilelik nedeniyle işe alınmayan bir başvurucuyu haklı bulmuştu. Kurum, muhatap banka hakkında 89 bin 571 lira idari para cezası uygulanmasına karar vermişti.
