i’m going to balletbc tomorrow night and ~obviously~ want to wear an eye-catching gown, and i like my hair enough today i’m seriously considering it, which means try-on time tonight yayyyyyyy 😊

it took a while to pull me in but then the first piece (27’52” by jiří kylián) at balletbc tonight really got me. especially the solo by eduardo jiménez cabrera (🫠) and then the duet between him and kiana jung (both topless, so beautiful), my breath was caught, just sublime

if ever there is a large public gathering in vancouver where daring fashion is welcome and safe, with a large queer contingent to boot, balletbc is probably it… and outside i will have a coat on of course 😁

oh dear. finding how you can feel even more profoundly alone in a crowd when it’s ostensibly your community (queer in general) but you don’t know anyone and it feels like trans women, as far as i can tell*, are even scarcer here than in a balletbc show

Two years ago I went to my first ever contemporary dance performance, a BalletBC show, after reading an interview about it by chance and finding myself intrigued (and generally feeling I needed for culture in my life).
It was world-shaking, discovering a deep passion in me I didn't know was there!

Apart from occasional goofiness and disastrous pre-wedding ballroom classes, I didn’t dance for my first 46 years.
but in 2020 I started with a therapist who is also a professional dancer/choreographer which sparked curiosity,

The second piece last night, Obsidian by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, also a world premiere, was AMAZING, the highlight of the show. Striking right from the start — first time I have seen BalletBC with live music (pianist on stage), the set up and costumes looking almost like ballroom
