This vibrant baluster vase with chrysanthemums is from Nagoya, Japan and was made in the early 1900s.

The floral pattern is made from vitreous coloured enamels, held together only by a framework of delicate wires.

One of the good things about getting older is how you begin to resemble a single limestone baluster supporting a railing on the Ponte di Rialto

Ignoring my husband as he points to the baluster draped in many, many quilt tops “Well these are all finished, right?” 😬
Everything is terrible but I’m making a new scrap quilt in the Jacob’s Ladder pattern for absolutely no reason except I felt like it.

When I lived in Seattle, I would walk past these support balusters almost every day, and capturing it became an obsession for years.

I wonder if they are still there? Also, TIL how baluster and balustrade are spelled after a lifetime.

A white marble baluster post (or balustrade pillar) carved with an imperial dragon & cloud motif. The dragon signifies power & good fortune while the clouds (and water waves) represent the environment & earth as an imperial domain.
