I am neither Muslim nor Catholic, I just lived in Hamtramck and
Banglatown for a very long time.

I’m happy when my neighbors are having a good time and I will eat all of their holiday food

Hard to beat Hamtramck around here for walkable density. If you haven’t ever been there I would recommend walking around a little bit. The Banglatown area at the northern end of town and the transition to area of Detroit just north of Hamtramck is really interesting

All the melts in their natural clothing. Fritz like a leather glove. Wunderbar!

What am I pretending?

Yes, he had his name on the podium, but it wasn’t a campaign fundraiser, it was a fundraiser for a Detroit nonprofit that was sponsored by the Arab-American Chamber of Commerce and Made in Banglatown.

The Unstoppable Spirit of Banglatown
Nestled in the heart of East London, between the old cobblestones of Spitalfields and the ever-growing glass towers of Shoreditch, lies Banglatown, a neighborhood as vibrant as it is layered in history. Also known as Brick Lane, the area is a cultural melting pot, where the spicy aromas of samosas mingle with the scent of freshly baked beigels, and where street art rubs shoulders with the ghosts of Victorian poverty.

It was a fundraiser for The Creative Union, a Detroit nonprofit that was sponsored by the Arab-American Chamber of Commerce and Made in Banglatown, a Bangladeshi-American organization.

1) I’m not surprised this place is in Banglatown / the Hamtramck Metropolitan Area

2) I love deadheading other people’s marigolds and collecting the seeds. I could have so much fun here

From our incredible Hispanic communities, the vibrant BanglaTown, and the country’s largest Yemeni population #MI13 has incredibly diverse immigrant communities that make our district great. As an immigrant myself, wishing all of our immigrants a Happy Immigrant Heritage Month!

Not long. Having lived in London’s “Banglatown” I’d say they’ll force feed you biryani at the drop of a hat. Remember someone bringing me a parcel had been delivered a few streets away “and here’s some samosas my wife made”

On an item now about the city’s cultural district program, Cheng has moved to add Little Iran to the cultural district list. And Bradford has moved to add Banglatown. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

Sounds like that big fire off of 94 on the East Side of Detroit is the car crusher/junkyard off of Strong Street again.

It burned a couple times over the years that I lived in Banglatown and Hamtramck 😬

Fascinating listen. One comment - in noting Chinatown, you say there's no equivalent like Bangladesh town.

Not really correct - Banglatown being a common term for the area around Brick Lane.

Just finished looking at Banglatown and histories of Bengali migration with my Postcolonial London students; next up, legacies of imperialism with my Historical Controversies class. Otherwise, a bit of marking, a bit of writing, a bit of other admin the order of the day.

Si vous vous trouvez à l’angle de Brick Lane et de Fournier Street, vous êtes à Spitalfields, au centre de Banglatown, le quartier de la communauté bangladaise de Londres. (…)
