Which data? Average new home buyer approaching 40. About half of Americans *before the war* said they’d have trouble paying a $1,000 emergency expense, and only 46% said they have enough savings to cover even 3 months of expenses. www.bankrate.com/banking/savi...

A survey by Bankrate shows 27% of respondents have a side gig compared to 36% last year. This is the lowest percentage since 2017.

Bankrate hypothesizes this is due to a strong job market and a cooling inflation rate.

I wonder if it’s the opposite and the issue is even side gigs are drying up?

55% of Americans say they would need to make $200,000 or more to feel rich or financially free, and 39% say they would need to make $500,000 or more, per Bankrate.

What would make you feel financially free?

Per Bankrate the lowest interest rates during Covid & the increased demand for homes added an AVERAGE $148k to the price of a home during that period alone …

I do not understand this:

"Bankrate analyzed prices for property taxes, homeowners insurance, utilities, internet and cable bills. We also calculated a sum for maintenance and repairs,"

Renters pay utilities/internet/cable! Those are prices of living in a home. not owning one.

Fascinating survey from Bankrate bankrate.com/banking/pay-... We know that average hourly pay has increased 4.0% over the last year. Inflation, excluding owner equivalent rent (the rent homeowners would pay to themselves), rose just over 1%.

that bankrate metric has a hard time w/ the vibecession, imo

like if you read the bankrate survey, the percentage of people who would pay for a $1,000 emergency expense from savings *went up* from 2018 to 2025 (in 2026 they added a new survey item that makes this comp harder to do).

‘No tax on tips’ could backfire amid growing tip fatigue.

A Bankrate survey last year found that Americans have taken an increasingly negative view of tipping, with roughly 1 in 3 calling it “out of control.”
