Looks like they got the idea from the Barclaycard advert. 😂

So Barclaycard was the first all-purpose credit card issued for the general public in the UK, launching on 29 June 1966. Yet they still haven't learnt any manners from their younger rivals.

Barclaycard, the balance of which I pay off monthly, wrote to me last month to ask if I would like to stop doing that - and leave a little each month on which they could charge interest - to 'help me manage my finances better'.

Not satisfied with my nil response, they've followed it up with a text.

Barclaycard forcing everyone to use their app is annoying

I have a Barclaycard too and have just been given 10 days’ notice of this downgrade. Now on the lookout for a replacement with a decently functional website that doesn’t treat me like an idiot. Can do my own research, of course, but suggestions welcome from anyone who’s happy with what they’ve got.

Spent a day trying to sort out to get crime number equivalent for insurance. They were still using the Barclaycard on the toll roads to France months later, despite it being "cancelled". Fortunately that wasn't my problem. They immediately withdrew the them max cash advance of £200 equivalent.

Phone Barclaycard. No reset PIN option. Hangs up on me. Call back. Now I get a "Hear My PIN" option that I didn't get before.

"I'm about to read you your PIN. Please hold."

"I could not retrieve your PIN. Goodbye."

Six attempts...I finally speak to a person and they're posting me a PIN. KTHXBAI.

Got a new phone. Logging into the Barclaycard app, it wants my card PIN that I have never, ever, ever used. Can only view it online using a username and account number that I have never, ever, ever set up or been given.

Now two hours in to trying to get them to reset it.

Free when I opened a Barclaycard account in 1978. The dust is also the same vintage.

The spending habits of Barclaycard carrying celebrities made fascinating reading in the early 90’s. Elton John for instance spent a fortune on fresh flowers.

Not the barclaycard app that I already have, no No NO! I have to download the barclays app, and try and register for that, fail, try again, register, go to activate the security function, which says “for security we will activate this feature sometime in the next 4 days, no we won’t tell you when."

They almost seem reluctant to tell you about logging on to barclays to get your barclaycard data, they even say you can do “some, not all” functions there, but they don’t tell you details, because THE APP THE APP THE APP!

For months now, the tolerable, clanky website has been telling me that it is going to be replaced by the App, that can’t do the one thing I use the website for. This month- no choice. Old website gone, no more barclaycard online banking. Use the app or go to a branch (ha!) or the barclays site.

I have a barclaycard. Each month I need to grab the transactions so I can jam them into a spreadsheet and work out household spending. The old website was tolerable for this- slow, clunky, and insistent that I should use their mobile app instead. This is important because…

Just seen the new Barclaycard advert.

"What you buy is your business"

Whereas they literally mean "what you buy is OUR business"

It's fucking hilarious.

Oh how I love the combination of legacy banks and technology. #barclaycard #useless

We desperately need a European payment system like Barclaycard/Visa. Surely it can't be that hard?

Barclaycard started in 1966.

I've had Barclay cards for >50 years but they are straining my loyalty. Until this week one could log in to the website to get a statement and post via online banking. Now they want everyone to use their app. Ain't gonna happen. 1/2

Wow ok, not seen that and struggling to imagine him in that role, vs his usual roster of smarmy poshish types. My brain defaults to him as a snooty waiter/maitre’d in a 1980s advert, for a credit card I think, Barclaycard? American Express? Not been able to nail it down

Also HELLO YOU been a while

Amazing what you can get with a Barclaycard.
