Bruno Reverberi, the current team boss of Italian ProTeam Bardiani CSF 7 Saber, has a distinctly pessimistic outlook on the future of the team that's been his family business for almost half a century. Bardiani has finished 31st in the UCI rankings for 2026, which means it loses its chance at a Giro d'Italia wildcard in 2027 – Bardiani has only missed one Giro since 1982. "Our project is to stop,” Reverberi told the _TriCiclo Podcast_. “How can you spend €5 million and not have the right to race? There is no future, and cycling has no future. We have already thought about closing in two years. In fact, we have taken four or five new riders and made them sign for only one year. You don’t even have the courage to go to the sponsor and ask for money.” Over the years, the Italian ProTeam has become known for its exploits in breakaways, especially in hilly and mountainous stages, but Reverberi says that's had to change in recent years with the development of the UCI points system, which does not value the kind of racing Bardiani has made its name on. “Our way of racing was to break away. Now you don’t even break away, because you try to keep the rider there to sprint for tenth place for those damned UCI points," he said. “The UCI is incompetent. They’ve destroyed cycling ... We’ve reached a bit of a peak with Pogačar in some ways, but everything is falling apart underneath. Cycling is disappearing, and nobody’s looking at it.”
