My Alma Hater, UMIST. Young me thought this was just a weird, rubbish, empty building with a café serving reheated mediocrity. I didn't appreciate the shapes, levels and space. Now part of Manchester Uni, sadly under-used. #brutalism #uom #barneswallis, from www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

I hold ten hours of 1977 taped interview with Leo d’Erlanger who invested in civil aviation including Imperial. In one section he speaks about Roy Chadwick & Avro, etc. Leo lifelong friend I’d #BarnesWallis. Anyone interested in collaborating ? Lots on international wagons lits as well.
Made in Manchester: Roy Chadwick (1893-1947) was chief aircraft design engineer for the Avro company and famed for creating the legendary Lancaster bomber, which helped Britain and its allies to win the Second World War. 1/6

The Vickers Wellington is famous for its geodetic airframe designed by Barnes Wallis which gave the bomber exceptional strength for its weight and helped many crews return even after severe damage.

This week I visited the #BarnesWallis Stratosphere Chamber at #BrooklandsMuseum. Or was it the #WesAnderson archives at the @designmuseum.bsky.social?

*Fond* memories of fielding in the deep facing the sun at the southern end of Bursledon Rec' live long in the memory.

Partly because, after one particularly bouncy passage across the outfield, our 'keeper broke into the Dambusters' March.

In my research into the d’Erlangers at Ennejma Ezzahra, i found evidence Baron Leo, head of the Erlanger Bank, close friend of ‘Bouncing Bomb’ #BarnesWallis, was also heavily involved with Mulberry Harbours. He refers to it in a 1977 interview. Happy to share details.
