Alright, first day of #JuneJottings.

This is from a short way into the first chapter of #Steam-Dancer, and I thought it was a good choice because there is about as much character and world-building here as I can squeeze into one screenshot!

It was a beautiful view, though. Gridiom straddled the edge of a vast plateau, and the Heights were built right up to the cliff side. The train’s path through the walls of the upper city continued out on top of the walls of the Basincity. Lachlan couldn’t see any of the lower city herself—it was on the other side of the train—but from her perch, she viewed all the vast expanse of the Galmorian lowlands. The smoke-pumping factories and airship yards of Guildlan to the south, and beyond that the dark smudges of Vennaer Ridge and Tanamane against the southern horizon. As the train settled on the tracks of the Basincity walls, she stood, dusted her skirt off, and entered her train car again. The rattling and the wind cut off with a slide and a snap. “Is it cold?” a husky baritone asked from the end of the room. Valkhasio’s voice pressed out against the walls of the cabin so that he might as well have been standing at her side. It was a voice for stages. “Biting,” Lachlan replied, holding out her hands. A steaming cup floated into her palms, and she inhaled the savory aroma of the black leaves. She hummed contentedly while a blanket curled itself around her shoulders. “Sitszivo?” she asked, sipping the rich tea. “Just made a pot,” Valkhasio replied. He reclined at her table, his long legs crossed with boots in the air, his chair tilted precariously on two legs. He was flipping through a bundle of paperwork while he waited, largely ignoring the door and the floating tea cup. A flat cap lay discarded on the table next to his boots. “Tastes expensive.” Lachlan walked over to the table and climbed into a large, cushioned chair. She curled her feet under herself and sat on them for warmth. “How long have we had this?” she asked suspiciously.

In the film #SinCity, we meet an anti-hero psychopath with unspecified mental illness (though we hear it results in visual hallucinations). And apparently, NO prostitute is willing to have sex with him - because of his facial features. So prostitution - is VERY UNUSUAL in the World of #BasinCity. Ⓐ
