A #weeping basophil for today's #SciArtSeptember although high pollen count has felt less of a problem with the not so roasting Devon summer this year 😢

Brain training will fix these children, right, @wired.com ?

"Lymphocyte, monocyte, and basophil counts were significantly lower in the Long COVID group, while D-dimer, ferritin, serum iron, urea, and creatinine levels were significantly higher."

The beauty standards in our culture are just totally unreal. This is a basophil you'd see published in a study guide or hematology atlas.

S. aureus causes a basophil influx into skin-draining lymph nodes that heightens Th2 responses & increases serum IL-4, which enhances intestinal permeability, exaggerating oral anaphylaxis (dermatitis --> food allergy) @cp-immunity.bsky.social @harvardmed.bsky.social

Thirdly, they discuss basophil and mast cell mediators and make some links I've never really seen before:

"In CFS, we think the physiological need for heparin/zinc leads to histamine release from those cells. This is because heparin inhibits coagulation, blood-clotting, &...

Fantastic list of papers @payalyokota.bsky.social! Will tag to the #ImmunoSky feed. Also adding some lung mac folks who may be interested. Bart's basophil story and the ILC2 LD paper are both very cool.

2024 has been a fantastic year of lung/imm/mac papers with some critical insights on host/pathogenesis. I'm highlighting some papers that I found in this thread, perhaps we can build more immune niches on sky app with help of @rodrahimi.bsky.social who initiated discovery imm stack. 🧵 x/n. Let's go.

This is the kind of basophil I see every day. You only have a few granules, little basophil, but you're gorgeous and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Headed to #APS2025! Two great talks tomorrow from the Isakson Lab in the MCS session. Wyatt Shug (8:30AM) will present on basophil-endothelial crosstalk, and Skylar Loeb (10:50AM) will present the novel identification and impact of hemoglobin-alpha in cardiac lymphatics. @brantisakson.bsky.social

Given how many different types of snake venom *inhibit* coagulation, are you sure that you should be on this list? Answering with a basophil was also highly sus. 🤔
