Nothing secret about it - I worked for a company whose sister company ran a newsroom in our office, they used BASYS and I was always fascinated by it. With my interest in retrocomputing, I think it'd be interesting to go back to basics and have an emulated DEC VAX running it

I remember when the newsroom at Bush had a stash of electric typewriters ready to be used if EDS (I think that’s what the forerunner of EDiT/BASYS was called) went down.

I was hoping there would be some Basys/EDiT info in the book but it’s all boring ENPS stuff. Basys - and old newsroom system widely used in BBC, ITN (who owned it) and CNN. Now vanished almost without trace on the internet.

I wrote a blog post about how to connect two boards with three jumper wires, and that’s approximately a 14 minute read. I may need to learn more concise writing. But yes, a new text about connecting a RasPi and an FPGA board to each other and using UART to communicate:

You’ll be relieved to hear I’ve finished going through loft stuff. My life basically down to 1 crate now. Threw out a *lot* of letters, BASYS/EDiT printouts, even a couple of diaries. Probably should have binned more. The Rachel Papers survived intact. Curse you, Rachel. I was not worthy.
So it turns out that RACHEL organised the trip to see Down By Law at the Cornerhouse when New Order sat in the row in-front of us! Cheers, Rache.
