76 years ago yesterday, Palestinians in al-Batani al-Gharbi were forcibly displaced by what would become the illegal occupying regime. The village was destroyed, yet some roads are still visible. The land is used as settler-only farmland today.

I wish we spent as much time with other captains exploring their journey to captaincy as we did with Burnham. Give me stories of Picard on the Stargazer, let me see Janeway on the Al-Batani and Billings. It shouldn’t just be Black captains we see having to work up to Captain.

The source trail points to Alex Alonso’s work on racialized Black gang formation in L.A., plus Quicker & Batani-Khalfani’s *Before Crips*, which is exactly the distinction I should have made: pre-Crip street groups first; Crips later, with a more contested origin.

I missed the early episode where we got the short-hair teaser, as well as the holonovel character. Oh, and Talaxian tomatoes. I can't remember what the other one was. However, I'm unjustifiably proud of myself that I remembered the Al-Batani.

It was so good. My favorite parts was her from her experience on the Al-Batani through to to her promotion. Her scenes with Ward were delicious to listen to lol.
